Another 69 383S this one in B7/B5

On of the biggest compliments I get at shows is the B5 interior...It sure is pretty to look at. And its the way it came from the factory. Wait till you get to drive it your not going to be able to slap the smile off your face. lol

Already smiling....

Do you remember this hideous picture?

Finally got the front and rear glass installed.

First guy kept saying he will be there.... Recommended by Year One and AMD, best guy around period!!!! Not when he won't show up.... excuses etc..

Got tired of it and called Southern Auto Glass of Dawsonville yesterday. Super nice folks and I forgot they had replaced my Duallie windshield. He showed up today and did a real nice job.. Seemed very excited to work on this car and very careful as well.

He commented at least 5 times about how nice the doors close. also was impressed on how well the AMD windshield fit.

I would highly recommend him (Marty ) for anyone in the North GA area.

Trying to get the rest the interior going but having some minor issues.

3/4 " plugs for the unused bench seat mount holes are keeping me from getting the back piece of carpet completed so I can install the lower trim pieces on either side of the seat. I could probably slip the carpet under them but do not what to have to take it back apart down the road if I can't.

Rain seals went in the back. Had some rolls of butyl strips left over from a SunPorch I put on the house a few years ago. Sealed up nicely and looks pretty close to the original stuff.

I got the mass backed carpet from ACC hoping the molded shape would just drop right in!! No such luck as it will need a little coaxing here and there. Set the rear seat lower in just to confirm it will cover some minor buckles in the carpet that happen when it is pressed down to the floor tightly.

Ended of removing the roof rail seal and molding cause the upper interior trim did not want to go back in to easy. Must have missed the fact the interior trim piece tucks into a slot on the roof rail molding when I took it apart. Trim first then roof rail molding (Dummy)!!! Least the new gasket came out without tearing it.

Good day today...

Got all the rest the trim and door panels in the rear. Got all the carpet in the rear and just need to put the trim around the wheel house covers on.

Came up short a few clips for the wheelhouse trim and hopefully Restoration Specialties has some with the correct dimensions.

The wheelhouse covers originaly had a vinyl covering but they were pretty bad when I got the car in 1984.

Waste of time trying to restore them as they also had 6x9 speaker holes cut in them long ago.

Welded some patchs in and went the carpet route like the deluxe interiors had.

Next weekend I plan the get the rest of the front carpet, hatch door on and start putting the seats back in.

Its Beer thirty right now!!!

Well not much interior work got done this weeked.

Got the shoulder belts installed and length of the visors adjusted so they would clip into the mirror correctly.

I did get the clips I was short for the wheelhouse trim from Restoration Specialties .They look and fit good and have the anti rattle on them as well. Started to get one side done but got interupted by a FEDEX delivery.

My painted front valance finally arrived, as well as the battery I ordered. Had to get that installed before it got scratched!. Got the bumper buttoned up and the k-frame brace installed. Mark them off the list.

Decided that it was time to verify some electrical now I have the battery. A few issues had to be resolved.
Drivers front park/turn lamp housing was not grounding correctly. The lamp socket was not grounding to the housing.
A little cleaning and a solder bead around the inside between the socket and housing and all is well. Other minor issue was the license lamp as it had some corrision from not having a lens on it for too long.
A little sanding and cleaning got it squared away. Over all not bad even the headlight warning buzzer is working!

Spent a little time on the hatch door and got it fitted. Short a couple of 10/24 bolts though so I could not complete it.

Finally got the rear of the interior finished and the cargo hatch/trunk done. Well sort of.... Need 1 more upper hinge to cargo door bolt (10-24 x 3/4) Came up short 2 as a thief had previously ripped out the hatch panel to steal the speakers many years ago... Thanks to member Sammie for sending the lower and 1 of the upper bolts I was missing!!! Just need to get the front carpet section in, console and front seats. Put the sill plates in and I think it is pretty much done. Have some fittings for the fuel pump and carb coming. Decided to put an edelbrock 800 AVS on it and do away with the Holley 750 DP. The 800 looks more at home under the hood and allows me to use the original style fuel lines. Fluids are in just need to bleed the brakes and this thing may be ready to fire before month's end.

Wow, that thing's spectacular.
Thanks Oldskool.... I got a little frustrated with some of the interior stuff due to me installing things in the wrong order and needed to take a break.. During that time I laid under the car and finished up some not important, but fun stuff never the less. Those that are following this restoration know that I am going for that Factory look with a few bolts on items here and there.... Anything not stock can be replaced fairly simply. They are truely bolt on items giving that day "2" look. Here are some underneath shots.. First is the real axle code found during cleaning. Next is the 742 center section with the correct markings found during cleaning. I got this from a circle track guy in Woodstock, Ga. about 30 years ago. Can you tell what ratio it is??? And for last a few odds and ends.

How's your 4-speed beauty coming??? We have not seen you post in a long time!!!!
All I have to do is block the left side & both fenders. Then its ready for paint. Ive been working on everybody else cars. Doc put me on short term disability & ive been doing side jobs to make a couple of bucks. Plus I am thinking of putting in a paint booth. Dad always told me that you have to spend money to make money. Its on the back burner right now. Ill keep you posted

Great attention to detail there !! Should win many awards. Love the B7/B5. I have a 70 N code Cuda with the same color combo.

Thanks....

Nice color combo and I am liking it....

Got the front carpet section in place and the console mounted up. Decided I liked the wood grain knob better So I am going to use it. Keeping the older style chrome one just in case I change my mind.

A Little trimming on the edges and the kick panels and seats are next.

Very nice ride! The color is really sweet! Can I ask what your back spacing is on those wheels and the size of the tires you have on it? Looks great!

15x8.5 / 4.25 backspace 275/60/15 4" pattern.

Lunch time .... Beer and College Football time as well...

Got on side buttoned up and the driver seat in.... Nice to see it all coming together.

Wow! Glad I stumbled upon this thread. This car is really spectacular!

Thanks 69_340_GTS.

Been a long wait to do something with this car and its been fun and frustrating!!

I did the seats 2 years ago and tucked them away in my cargo trailer to be almost forgotten.... The Body took a long time to get finished.

Well got the passenger side trimmed out this morning the ACC mass back carpet fit pretty good. They leave a lot on the edges that has to trimmed. Pulled the seat mounts back out and now the part I have been dreading. Time to lay on the back and hook up the heater/defroster control cables and defroster hoses. This is the kinda stuff that convinced me to leave the mechanic field 26 years ago!!! Tough on an old body!!

Another Good day!!!

I am gonna call this interior done.

Got the cables hooked up for the heat/defrost and defrost tubes in. Was easier to take the glove box back out then laying on my back.

Mounted up the other seat and just need to screw in the seat belt holders. (Close enough)!

I am a smoker but there will be no butt's in this ashtray.

Guess its time to prime the engine and dump some fuel in the tank and see if she will fire off.

Gerald

I was mesmerized by the pics of of your restoration. When I built my 69 fastback, i lowered the 340 in from the top. I could not tell from your pics, but how did you get the front of the car angled up so high to get the K-member and 383 in from the bottom? I had thought that it could only be done with a garage lift.

Thanks!!

You would be suprised how a little leverage works!!

Inside my standard garage was not an issue with these brackets my 16 year old nephew welded up that bolt to the US Cartool dollies. He had never mig welded before and I believe he is a natural. Did not think for a minute his welding would fail. Standard tractor supply engine crane.
My wooden dolly I built for re-assembly was darn near perfect. Just had to put a bottle jack under the back to raise it a 1/2" to slip the crossmember bolts in.
