My power steering box on my 1970 Dart Swinger 340 is leaking on the top
There seems to be a round piece that has notches on it, It is leaking around the edges of the round top piece.
Can anyone please guide me as to how to repair this?
Picture is attached....

i think there is a big o-ring under there. might be a big pain. i would try lucas PS stop leak. it works!

Try the stop leak 1st. If that doesn't work the box has to be removed to fix. Do you have a service manual? Wise to get one if you take the box apart.

It looks like it's time to pull it and at least reseal it. I sent mine out to have it rebuilt. Steer and Gear did a very nice job. You might fix one seal and lose another. They are a pain to pull out but not impossible.

I had a leaker and pulled it, tried to rebuild it and it still leaked. Got a rebuilt one and installed it with the engine in but was a PIA. After pulling it the 2nd I would recommend a rebuilt or remanufactured one.

Just saying!

Steer and Gear rebuilds all mine. they are great. have used a dozen. always keep at least one on hand from them that's all rebuilt and ready to go! also have the pump rebuilt. if you want one, let me know so your mechanic can just do a swap in a day instead of waiting for one to be sent and come back. If still possible to get a unit from a local NAPA, they come painted blue or some other color! not very pretty in a nice car.

I don't recall seeing on leak there before. Majority of leaks are at rotating shaft seals.
Replacing those is more common and simple. Removing the cover you're looking at gets into bearing preloads, special tool, etc..
I have agree with "reman'd".

I had a leak in the steering box, bought the seal, and looked up how to replace seal and said forget that! Just bought a rebuilt unit , on the web, same one cost over double at the parts store. Wasn't too bad to install except dropping the pitman arm on my face.
