Hello all,

I am hoping to get some advice on selling my Scamp 340 project. I don't have the time, space or funds to finish it and have not had any replies when I have posted it for sale. I am considering parting it out since it had a nice running 68 340 but don't know what the motor is worth. 1968 340 motor .030 over, X heads 2.02 intake, matching casting # from heads, intake, block. Forged steel crank, rods, and high comp pistons, MT Cam .If anyone has a opinion on the follow questions I would be appreciative:

What is the value of the following:

rebuilt 68 340 with X heads
rebuilt 904 transmission
front disc brake setup
73 Scamp body nearly rust free (pin holes in quarters and light surface rust on rockers)
73 Scamp doors, fenders and hood, trunk lid, bumpers

Here is a link to a youtube video of the motor:

Any advice on moving this project car would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Pete

I'd say just move it to my place but the wife would have a cow and you would want $$!
It's funny how people don't want to pay for the package but when you break it down they are way ahead dollar wise. I'm not sure what the answer is...

The fact that you never answered a question in your for sale thread....to me means you are trying to hide something. Please don't take this as an insult, just trying to be helpful. And I agree with mguner, people don't want to pay for a package but will spend more $$$ on just one part of it...I don't think $3750 is out of line for a running project, especially one with a x-headed 340 in it....especially back east. Granted, some folks could not care less about the 340...

Put it on ebay with the most honest description you can possibly write up and you will get what it is worth.

I don't think she would notice the Scamp with all the other mopars you have!

What color is the Imperial? I had a white 70 New York and miss it dearly.

Thank for the reply. I'm not insulted. The reply was only the second reply I received and it was a month after I posted so I didn't see it. Nothing to hide with the Scamp. It needs finishing and runs great. The roof pillars need filling, pin holes filled, paint, interior put in, very little rust. I will include more detailed pictures, list what it needs and reply to questions quickly. Thanks for the input. The price is probably too hight, may lower it.

Thanks again,

Pete

I don't know how much of a hurry you are to sell it. if it doesn't have to go quick, wait for the best offer. I would start out asking 5 grand. That should be a fair price for that Scamp. Put a 318 in it if you are going to take less and sell the 340 separately.

The long list is exactly why she would! The Imperial is a copper color and had a white vinyl top. No rust under the top though.

I think the biggest scare to a buyer is the different panels, paint ain't cheap to have done. Just a small compare I bought my 74 Duster with a 318 and factory sunroof for 3500. It had a quickie repaint but was close to the original color. I bought it a drove it for years like that. You have a coat of many colors project and that does scare people.

.............atleast throw some primer on it to make it all 1 color.....I would think 3 grand would be a fair price...kim........

correct on the throwing primer-- but then you get what is he trying to hide comments.

Rough time of year to sell projects/ cars-- Christmas is fast approaching-- Good luck with your sale---- the more info on the sale ad the better chance the buyer will be real, Lawrence

I agree with the idea of d ropping in runnin 318 and sell the 340. have good evidence of how good the 340 runs. yea, if ya prime the panels, then ya get the'" whats under the primer" thing! I say keep it as is.
yes its funny how parts can sell better than a good project. a sign of our times and economy ( for now)....
I would try it on stupid bay also.
if I couldn't get a fair price, I would try to hang on till ya did......... I know it can be hard, but later ya might be glad ya did!

.............at least throw some primer on it to make it all 1 color......
I loathe to buy a car with "fresh paint" of any sort. I would rather see all of the sins.

How much would you ask less engine, trans, driveshaft and radiator? Can the roof be saved or is it too corroded?

You could expect to get at least $1500 for a documented rebuilt 340, probably more depending on just what's been done, $500 for a rebuilt trans with docs, maybe more depending on what's been done to it, $300 for the disc setup if its in as removed condition, up to $800 for a fully rebuilt setup, and for the body, I would estimate about $800 without seeing it! So, what's that add up to??

I think part of the lack of interest is the fact that it is a 73 and later car! Yes, they're becoming more popular, but still not as desireable as an earlier model, and not near the value of a true 340 car! I agree to seperate the 340 and drop in a 318 to keep the car as a project, and sell the motor seperately! Geof

I would think the different color panels would scare off more potential buyers that would having it all one color primer. I would scuff it all up and shoot it with "hot rod" black and put the interior back into it. Take lots of good pictures and write up a good description and it will sell. Might have to wait until spring though.

IF it gets shot with hot rod black or any other primer take lots of pictures before.

I would prefer seeing it as is rather than fresh primer or even paint

Projects are hard to sell but might be easier in the spring. And in most cases the parts are worth more then the whole car

Good luck

Cars like this are really tough to sell around here. I've taken a beating on just about every car I've sold over the years. It can also take forever. If you genuinely want/need to sell it, suck it up and take a reasonable offer.

Parting it out will take forever. People will want the stupidest stuff that takes more time to remove than its worth. They will need 30 pictures of everything and want it for bottom dollar. Screw that.

Post up signs at SK Speed and S&S over on Atlantic Ave. Contact L.I. Mopars, maybe that will get a a lead or two. Not many car shows left to take it to. Pick up a special interest paper, they usually list events weekly. Spruce it up a little, take some arty pictures of it and post them to Instagram. Maybe some Brooklyn hipster will buy it. This is all common sense stuff.

Just sold my Camaro parts car today. Less than I originally asked. Not much money out there. I still consider myself a novice at all this, but to do a car right it costs a pile of money and most don't have it laying around. My opinion on motors is that you can practically buy a warranted turn key engine for what you put into building one...especially if you can't do all the work yourself. I want to learn as I build so I am getting help where I need it. Leave it patchy...
