I need the width of the large blackout center stripe (I believe is painted on) that is the shape for the smaller stripes run along on a factory 72 demon hood, sizzler? ..... just the width, I have the small stripe kit I got from Gary that will give me the shape......but my hood has been repainted and the black out is all wrong in shape and size. once i have the width my painter should be able to figure out the rest. also does the first vinyl stripe over lap the black painted stripe?
thanks ...john

Wish I knew where to look :coffee2: I know coyote Jack has this stipe on his car, if I can find anything on it I will repost it up here, lets put this to the top for you this morning in hopes to get you info :glasses7:

I have the stripe kit on the hood for my '72 John. I went to take measurements and mine aren't accurate. The hood was done over in it's past life and whoever put them on were off some. So I gave up because I don't want to give you the wrong measurements. But I can tell you that the first stripe did overlap halfway over the painted blackout.

Thank you Jim...... ( i'll never let that one die ) ..lol. I have the same problem.
I also did something to my hood hinge on my drivers side, It made an extremely loud BANG and now my hood will not go down even with the cowl. I thought I broke the spring but the person that I want to paint my hood says different ..... he knows his stuff so Ill let him decide once he gets the car. Thanks for looking ....... How have ya been?

here's another pic off the web.
Even up the stripe you have with the cowl vent opening and you should be good.
My Dart Sport is all vinyl on the hood and cowl area is painted.

Thanks ... I seen that pic also. ... but I need the measurement to start the vinyl stripes the correct width. ..... otherwise I could make the whole thing to narrow or to wide.

John, I couldn't find any measurements for placement on your hood. Best I got is some pics :)

I have a TB3 72 Demon with the original paint and original blackout on the rear cowl lip and lower windows channel. Will shoot a couple of pics and measure the blackout for you in the morning.

Thanks Grant. I should have thought to get a measurement at one of the big shows this year ........but I didn't.

sounds like one (or more) bolts loosened up and popped out of adjustment is what you herd John, sounds like you are well on your way :glasses7:

Here are the measurements I took. One from left, one from right, and a detail on how they striped mine.

One thing I thought of after getting to work is that you may not have the window out, rendering these useless. If you need me to redo them, I can take a pic with a straight edge possibly on one of the cowl vents to identify where it actually is.

Note that I started the tape at the 1" mark.

Let me know.

Grant

Hope these help. They are from my original paint car. The edge from stripe to stripe is approximately 35" (tape measure reds 5"-40") as it may be hard to see. If you want to PM your email I can send full size pics too.

Thank you, that sounds good, Im guessing the blackout stays the same 35" until it starts to curve in? I know thats sounds funny, but I want to make sure they don't slant in towards the front.

I wish I would have asked all more questions when my side stripes were put on ....... someone told me they were too low, and that bugs me now. :violent1:

Thanks Grant, ya I kinda need the measurement right at the cowl and hood, funny all replies had pics with Petty Blue paint like my car, I thank both of you for taking the time to actually get measurements......and from original cars too !!

Unfortunately I don't have the hood to measure off of. I'd say the the black is slightly wider than the 35" and the stripe covers the edge on both sides. I'll look in the morning

Well My black out is way to wide since being painted over a few times, so it looks like
ill be getting the whole hood and cowl repainted and what ever needs done to blend it all in ........or I could have him bring the black all the way down as one wide stripe.....or I could just leave it alone. ...... Probably looking at a whole hood repaint, I would like to see it correct ......somewhat correct anyway. Waiting on an estimate from painter for now.

Pic#2 is of my '71 Demon Sizzler. (Post #7)
The center is painted and the tape part of the stripe overlaps by approx. 1/4''.
