Just curious, has anyone changed their front brake system
to bbp disc and redrilled back to the 4"sbp pattern?
I'm in the process of changing to disc but would like to
retain my 14" wheels.
Will the drum wheels still work with disc system?

I am looking but if I remember right the 14'' wheels hit the brake cal. Longarm.. still looking for that thread I posted in that I wanted to find at a later date !

I drilled mine out to 5 on 4.5 and used rally wheels. using 9" spindles
BUT I was working on it and didn't want to damage the good tires and rims. So I unscrewed the studs for the 4.5 pattern and put back my replacement 4" SBP lugs and bolted on the original 14" rims that came with the car. It cleared everything that I could see. It was really tight. I have also seen some 14" rims that did NOT fit my conversion. (my spare tire and rim did not go on. It seemed to be not as wide as the 4 tires that were on the car. 5 or 5.5 wide I think) I did the Scarebird disc swap. SSBC disc (BBP) conversion won't work for me (hits the calipers), and I have no useful knowledge on the others since they have changed a lot in 6 years. I DID NOT go lock to lock since I was only moving the car around the shop and have since put back on the BBP screw in studs. (I should have tested lock to lock since they will go back on to put the engine in the car from the bottom soon.(I hope:D))

13"s SBP do NOT fit at all they hit the caliper inches before the tire get near the studs. too damn small

Ahhh just re read the post and you have already switched to BBP. if using stock stuff then NOPE won't work something (late model hub I think)is too large or either it hits somewhere. that's why I went the other route.. my bad sorry:banghead: gotta learn read/understand better.

Could the hub be turned down enough to fit
the wheels.
Starting to looks like I might have as much in machine
work as I would in buying new wheels.

This thing is an exercise in pain and really trying
my patience.

I would doubt it. The outer bearings are the same, Timken set #2, but you would have to machine the outer hub and centering feature. Then drill and install 7/16 in studs, assuming they would fit in the flat stud pocket inside the rotor. Doesn't sound too cost effective to me. If you keep your eyes and ears open, maybe you could score a Kelsey-Hayes setup and be done. I just found a complete set for $100 on Craigslist.

The reason no one has done it is because most people swap to the LBP brakes because they want to be free of the 14" SBP wheel limitation.

If you wanted to keep your SBP wheels it would have been simpler to use a K-H SBP disk setup -- there is pretty much always one for sale in the classifieds. Arguably, it's a better system, anyway, and you can get slotted cross-drilled rotors and high performance pads for it (since it was used on Mustangs).

Anyway, for right now, it shouldn't be hard to find some LBP 14" steelies -- they were used on B-bodies as well as late A-bodies.

Swapped my 10" front drums to SSBC discs and stock 14's fit fine. No caliper interferance at all.
The SSBC rotors have dual lug patterns so you can retain the small bolt pattern or go with big simply by moving the lug studs.
I believe SSBC requires the fronts to be stock 10" drum brakes though.
