Ok, I just don't have the time, or the ambition right now for my 1964 Barracuda project. The body is on a rotisserie, the engine, a 340 out of a 70 Duster, is on a stand and needs to be rebuilt. There isn't very much body work needing done, rust wise, and the car is 90% complete, with some new parts I have purchased, and the old stuff that came with the car .

I paid $2750 for the car, another $1300 to get it here, and have sunk another $4000 into various items(rotisserie, sheet metal, both new and used from others).

What would be a fair asking price for this car?

I know there's no chance in hell I could get anywhere near what I have in it, but would just like to see it go to a good home, where someone will finish it, and not cut it up.
I will NOT part the car out, it is in too good of condition and a first year Barracuda. I will not sell to someone looking to cut it up, either.

Now, to attack the pricing phase

Your lucky to get 500 bucks for the car . the motor is worth more then the car . you may as well part it out to get any kinda money outta one of thes . I have a 65 slanty car that runs and drives . needs lower 1/4s and sanded . mines been for sell for years . like i said you already have it apart you may as well part it out . if you want out .

No way I would part that out, it's come too far for that. Looks like some decent work that's been done.

I do agree I would not nether but he asked if i think he could sell it . I dont think he could . (I aint parted mine out lol ) But thats what i think he would have to do to get out of it . I would really (If he dose not have to get out of playing with cars) push it in the shop and just sit on it . thats what ive done with my cuda i drove it to the back yard and just letting it sit intell i can get to it . if i never do thats where it will sit intell im dead. It aint eating nothing where its at .

Let it sit.

If you find the right buyer, they will pay you about $2,500.

Get back to it when you can. You will be sad if you lose money and time. Just be patient. Life doesn't always have to happen all at once. I've got plenty of cars that I can't touch right now, but that does not mean I will never get to it.

Look at it this way; What will keep you from doing something with the car, a year or more and a few more grand that a year or more will render in savings? Its not a big deal to let it be for a while.

Agreed! I have let my car sit for several years. It's only been recently that I've been in a position to get back on it. I've owned the car for about 7 years, drove it a bit, but mostly kept it stored while I collect parts...and saved up the cash for a paint job. I'm glad I didn't decide to sell.

If you sell it, you may always regret it later.

If you let it sit for a while until you can get back into it again, you won't....

This is what's called the proverbial "rock and a hard place." As Karl said, you may regret it if you sell it, but if you hang on to it and tell yourself "I'll get around to it" life will find funny ways to keep you from completing your task. Look what happened with the construction project on your house, and whatnot. Personally, I would take a good, long look at what exactly the car means to you. If you can live without it, by all means let her go. But if it would bother you even in the slightest, don't. But in the end it's going to come down to what you want to do. I don't envy the choice you have to make. Good luck!

I think the more important question is, what is the reason for the stall in motivation? Is it money? Is it time or time or space? Is it someone else's influence? Is it that you didn't really want to do it in the first place? No need to answer, that's personal, but things to ask yourself. If it's something you really wanted and still want to do, but are just in a slump, the motivation and interest will probably come back, then you'll wish you had it. If you have a place to keep it, set it aside for awhile, then maybe in the spring, attack it full bore and get it back together, even if it's not painted. As a running, driving car, you'll enjoy driving it around, or you'll have an easier time selling it, either way you'll be in a better place. It just seems like such a waste to me to sell for a third or quarter of what you have into it, with all the new parts.

I bought my 74 in 1978...
Laid off in 1983...
I put it up for sale...
I had a guy that bugged me for months after I changed my mind...
I still have it...
Now I have a grandson that loves Mopars too

Well, I decided to just move it off to the side, let it sit at least until spring and maybe the urge to work on it wil attack me in the spring, so here's what I did yesterday, cleaned up the garage, and arranged it so 2 cars can fit in!!!!

Here's an idea...pick something you'd like to do next on it, decide how much you need to set aside to accomplish that phase, then start saving a nominal amount towards that phase every week! Maybe it'll take you the entire winter to save the money, but it will get you excited as your money goal gets closer, and the projected phase gets close to becoming a reality! Maybe that will give you some light in the tunnel to work towards!! Just thinkin out loud here!! Geof
