I just got the opportunity to use this and am very impressed. Has anyone applied paint over top of the wrinkle to give it a different colour ? Im playing with some ideas and was curious on the end result.

wrinkle paint works well especially left in good sunlight to cure. but I never thought of changing it from black. I would t ry it on a piece of scrape to see how it works.
one thought. expoxy primer seems to stick to bout anything. maybe a mist coat of epoxy as a sealer and then your color if paint direct to wrinkle doesn't work????

I've never done it myself but I've seen people do it.My friend's son did it on his Honda, red over black,it looked good.Have to do real light coats of color and heavy coats of VHT.His son preheated valve cover in an electric oven loaded it with paint then popped it back in oven to cure. I guess it gave it a deeper or more textured wrinkle.I did my air cleaner and M/T valve covers that way and they turned out great.I let them just air dry the first time and it barely wrinkled,I guess you could use a heat gun.

That paint is durable,I had a hell of a time bead blasting it off after my first attempt didn't work.

Thanks, good to know..better make sure I want it that way before I change my mind. I just did my plastic dash trim. It was scratched and not perfect. Tried different types of paint even with the adhesion promoter but didn't like the end result. Got tiered of doing it time and time again so I wrinkled it. turned out good, well to me anyway. Thanks for the info everyone.

I have used it. works good. if you want to get it off easy, go to Oreillys and get their brand of brake cleaner and spray it on and let it sit for awhile. it will come right off. don't know why but their brand works best at removing paint off anything. Blocks, heads whatever.

Here are a few, like mentioned. Pieces arent perfect and the wrinkle paint did wounders. Sorry some glare but the wrinkle is nice and even. What do you think?

Looks nice, I found that the sun really helps the wrinkling, but the directions on the can mentioned nothing about it. I tried one coat on a VC, and the part that was in the shade did not wrinkle, and the part in the sun did. There was literally a line where it changed. I restarted and used the paint, then put the valve cover in the oven while it cured with the light on and 200* temp.

I also did the same on my carb hat.

I know Honda guys paint red over the top of the wrinkle all the time, but it doesn't hold paint that well, and they actually sell a red wrinkled paint instead. Not sure about other colors.

That stuff works great! Did my Shelby Charger T2 valve cover and intake as original..looks fantastic. When applying it seems to like a light coat followed by a heavy coat, cure in the sun if possible and be patient, the longer it dries the more it wrinkles.

Works great just follow the directions. I pre heated the aircleaner slightly then after the paint used hair drier.

I did my seat base's came out great. Looks like I'll try my air cleaner , I like the look. I'll rough up the aluminum, first I guess. thanks for the idea.

I found the one thing I don,t like about wrinkle paint whenever I did my valve cover; It attracts dirt bad and isn't the easiest to clean.

Just my 2 cents.

Cool idea Edd! I never woulda thought of doing trim pieces with that stuff. Got a can of it...tried it on my factory air breather and I didnt get good results, but thats my fault....lack of patience and sunlight LOL

So are you painting over top of the wrinkle now??
Good job!

Yup ive noticed this too, especially if you spill a bit of oil in it, dirt sticks to it like crazy.

This is really good stuff, I also was wondering about spraying another color on top of it..

Not possitive on putting a different colour on what i have done, well as of yet. I have a solid trunk finish panel with a few small dings and scratches......Im thinkin of it next and maybe body colour on it, not possitive yet. Did my air cleaner as well and im thinkin of putting some low gloss clear on it...........Hopefully keep it cleaner like mentioned above, dirt and all stickin to it. Thanks everyone for the in put and comments. Muchly appreciated. Will post more pics as i go.

I heat the metal part in the oven to about 170 degrees lowest setting.

Then paint with wrinkle.

Then put back in oven at 170 for 1/2 hour or so. More durable if you bake it. And the wrinkle will be VERY consistent.

I can file my fingernails against my baked wrinkle parts.

Not wrinkle, but you get the idea... I try to bake all my painted stuff.

Thanks Ulf!!! :-D From the VHT paint jobs I've seen (and replaced), the powder wrinkle is a lot more consistent and replicates the factory's stuff a lot better.
