Hey all Happy Holidays,

just changed the oil in my '69 318 for the first time since I got her and when I fired it up after I found that fuel was spraying from the hose connecting to the fuel filter. The filter itself was replaced less than 3k miles ago. I plan on disconnecting the hose although I didn't see any cracks it does appear to be spraying out at the hose connection.

My question is most people seem to think that you have to replace the fuel filter anytime you might change the hose. Problem here is I would need to order a fuel filter online and I am talking several weeks to get it shipped to me way out here. If it is just a hose/connection issue no need to replace the filter you think? Realize that it might seem a simple question but I am coming to DIY mechanics late in life so I am a novice......

thanks! :???:

Why not just get some 5/16" fuel line hose and cut it off to replace the hose connected to your fuel filter.

Also, It may just be a hose clamp problem. The spring style clamps work better than the screw type.

Replace the hose. Or if it's long enough - cut the end back and reconnect it. I can't think of any reason to change a filter cause a hose leaked. Unless they were trying to sell you a filter and it comes with the little pieces of hose...

I think you have the principal in practice backward. Any new fuel filter purchase should include any hose and/or clamp that may be damaged in the R&R. That's all about the fire hazard. Hoses and clamps are sold separately from filters.

thanks all, was able to find some 5/16th fuel line hose here. found that the previous owner had 3/8 hose on there, wonder if that contributed to the leak. had to use screw clamps as no spring clamps found on the island......replaced it and no leaks.....

Yep, 3/8th hose too large for the fuel filter nipple.
