Can I get a /6 in the 7's?

-
My car goes 7.40's in the 1/8th. It's a no expense spared big block car. With a mild to moderate built 440 in it. It makes 310/450 at the wheels. 4:56 gears, 3500 stall. glass hood and a few other lightweight or lightened items.

N/A on a slant without seriously lightening the car. yeah, sounds tough.

Forced induction, I'd say you have a shot. But as said, unless you want to drop a ton of money to be "different" I might choose the V8 route. and you better have some serious skills or now a real builder/tuner who is truly skilled. That eliminates the buddy we all know who benchtop builds race cars after downing a 6 pack of beer.

Personally as far as wow and different, go to a car show and park a BB a-body amidst the others. Mission accomplished. Unless it's an exotic turbo or blown /6 no one is going to oogle your machine nor fear it.

Thanks Charlie! This is exactly what I was looking for! A couple a years ago, there was a slant running in a footbrake class I was in. While I was in the staging lanes, about every racer was taking a look at the car and I was as well. It really peaked my interest in the /6. I'm going to go with the fogger set up as you recommended and committing to the /6 build. Will the stock crank/rods hold up with this combo, or should I upgrade these components?

All the engines I run use stock rods, crank, pistons, except for a couple of engines that had the old TRW/Speed pro forged stock replacement pistons. I have hurt pistons, but only due to another failure, first. Had a air leak at the inlet of the fuel pump. Nitrous doesn't like airrated fuel (Lean). Other failures were tuner error (me), stepping up the shot and miss the tune up. The bigger shot you use, the more critical the "tuneup".

Contact Cox Brothers Racing in Columbus, Oh! They are running high 9's in the qtr with their slants and can surely help! Geof

One thing I will bring up about nitrous, that many don't consider, is cost. Nitrous and turbo, are like the old oil filter commercial. "Pay me now, or pay me later". Nitrous is less expensive then a turbo to build. But there is the ongoing expense of filling the bottle, so keep that in mind. I fill my own bottles, and that saves me money. I have seen prices of any where from $3.00/lb to $5.00/lb. A couple of years ago nitrous was costing me less then $1.00/lb, now it is about $2.00/lb. Depending on the race, I might use as much as 6 ten lb bottles in a weekend. Some meets are Fri night TnT, Sat race, and Sun race. So if I get lucky and make rounds, I need more nitrous. You can only use about 5lbs from a bottle, and remain consistent. That means you need extra bottles (I have 7).

Sounds like fun!!!

What's not fair is that I have zero experience with this untried combination, and you're on alcohol and I'm not, plus your car is a good 550 pounds lighter than mine and you have LOTS of experience running it.

But, that turbo should make up for all that and more, unless I am a complete idiot, which I may well be! :eek:ops:

Maybe by then, I will have a few trips down the strip and have at least, SOME IDEA of what I am doing... fat chance... LOL! But, I have been outrun before, and I survived it. :violent1:

I am looking forward to it!!! :happy1:
Bill my friend you better bring your A game . His car is tuned good . Ive seen it and its sister car run .

As I have said; I have been outrun before... it's not a life-shattering experience...

That is an amazingly fast car, given that he's doing it with that piece of garbage for a cylinder head! Just amazingly fast....

I wouldn't mind losing to him...:coffee2:

Tell me about its "sister car." please...
