Super torquey and responsive, very happy right now.

W2 sweet spot come in early in the mid range, it's gonna be fun with a 3800 stall in a 3100 pound early A body

Sounds very streetable to me, and with 440 inches, the torque has to be stout, especially if the 1 5/8 tube headers from the stand makes their way into the car? Looks like a very broad, low/mid range (2500/5000) 500+ lbs. ft. to me.

Getting her to hook.....that's a whole nother issue. :D
 
We'll be building a set of proper W2 flange headers for it

The motor is 10:1 with a Bullet custom grind 251/259 @ .050 solid roller with .605 lift and 109 centers. Heads are ported but the runners were not really enlarged very much, 90 percent of the work was in the bowls and transitions with the chambers and exhaust ported ceramic coated as were the faces of the 2.08 and 1.60 11/32 stem valves.

It's built to be a docile but super responsive street motor very similar to the 442" AMC we built for my buddys jeep that made 545/545. i suspect with these slightly better/faster solid roller ( the amc runs a 238/246 @.050 hydraulic roller with .612 lift) ramps and a bit better flowing ports this one will make about 580 torque and 575 hp all in by 5800.

i may hit it with a 200 shot for fun since it runs so cool.

The thermal barrier keeps heat in the chamber and allows the head and the motor to run a little cooler, by transferring less exhaust/combustion heat into the coolant. I just visited the Huge Seimens turbine engine plant in Charlotte and noticed all the exhaust fins on the combined cycle generator turbines are cetamic coated. Porsche does the same coating to their production heads that I did here so there must be some benefit to it. I plan to drive this one a lot and I'm making a lot of performance and handling upgrades to it.

The heads are really what make this a special build for me, my first set was way back in the late 70's so there's a sentimental nostalgia vibe to this build, they were expensive to bring to life ( rocker gear, special shafts and offset intake cup roller lifters and re-eye rowing the Pistons to name but a few. Of and we fiil it with water and find out the valve cover bolt threads are WET !!!!

WTF??

In the end I'm happy with it, cost a bunch more than a set of ported Eddies but still the History factor is kinda worth doing, it's definately a cool build

the bore size is 4.060" then? Did you use a 360 or a 340 block? Lot´s of grinding necessary at the bottom of the bores? Some pics would be great, i´d love to put this crank i my SB one day.....

4.06 b x 4.25 stroke with the 2" SBC journal grinding was very minimal. Useda 6.2" K1 Rod and a 1.26 SBC ICON piston with the valve pockets laid back on it .
 
Wet valve cover bolts? What casting number are those heads?
What ceramic coatings did you use?
 
The pick up tube was close but adequate, I don't remember the casting number but I probably have a pic we can get it off of. Yes the lower valve cover bolt holes (all three) are wet, whicheans if you want to set the hot lash.....

Gonna try to anchor a shallow set screw i there and hopefully still have enough threads to tighten down the covers.

I don't remember the coating but my buddy Mark is a specialist and I'd remember the name of the coatings if I heard it. Apparently it's all in the curing and the surface preparation and how the coating is applied.

The last hurdle is to stick build a decent sized set of headers in the car for it, I can say without any hesitation that Stephen Daurity is the right guy for the job, his fabrication skills are amazing and beyond my comprehension!

Probably not going to dyno it since the W2 headers will be hand built in the car. The puny 1 5/8 LA flange headers would handicap it. I'll probably chassis dyno it and for sure I will 1/4 mile test it.

The combo is basically the same high torque Streetwize Recipie we used back in May on my buddy Nat's 442" AMC motor with ported edelbrock heads and 2.05 valves.!That one used a hydraulic roller that was 238/244 @ .050 and 109 centers in at 105. it made 543hp and 547 lb/ft peaking at 5800 rpm. The dyno sheets are on moparts in the Jeep section.

This is the same basic configuration but the Mopar has a bit better flowing W2 head with 2.08 valves and a bit more aggressive Solid Roller Bullet 251/259 on the same 109 spread in at 105. The solid is about 10-12 degrees bigger at .200 than the Hydraulic so we conservatively expect it to pull 570 lb/ft and around 580HP at a bit higher 6200 RPM.

Not sure the thermal barrier coatings will pick up power noticably but it sure won't hurt it.

I'd have to check but all in I'm at or just a bit under $8k.

Probably some horse trading in there somewhere and some recycled parts I already had but the motor is exactly what I wanted.
 
yea I thought that was Hollis. I wound like to know how the small block compared to the big block as for hp and tq #. It's badass for sure!!!!
