Would this 4 speed fit my 1968 440 barracuda coupe?

-
It's a one year only Borg Warner T-10 63 4 speed trans from a 383 B-body. The shifter is in the wrong place, the tailshaft is too long, and it's got a ball and trunion output shaft.

Read here: http://www.brewersperformance.com/history.htm and here: http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmissions/four-speed-manual.html

I've seen complete 67-76 A-body 4_speed swap overs at last Fall Fling and Spring Fling for $1000-$1400 (small block bellhousing) and transmission with shifter and linkage for $400-$700. Bare trans' $350-500 (need to open and inspect each gears' engaging teeth).

Since you have a big block in an A-body it's a little more complicated ($$).

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong with something here. But I'll try here... 67-76 A-body 4speed small block transmissions have a 4.354" bearing retainer and bellhousing. You'll need a cast iron bellhousing with casting numbers: #2468372 or Brewer repro cast aluminum #BH513R-S. That was originally on 67-69 A-bodies AND 66-67 B-bodies.

You need:
A-body A-833 trans 23 spline. 67-70 has 2.65 1st gear ratio, 71-75 has 2.44 1st gear.
Big block bellhousing stated above
clutch fork and pivot bracket
Flywheel
clutch
throwout bearing
A-body 4 speed linkage
Hurst A-body shifter
69-74 A-body 4-speed shifter handle
67-76 manual trans hump
67-76 A-body pedal setup
67-69 big block Z-bar and clutch linkage with rebuilt bushing kit
Driveshaft

Did I leave something out?

To answer your question, yeah it'll fit. With modifications, it'll fit.

Alright that sounds fair and like a real good amount of work with a good amount of experience needed to do this.

Let me suggest this... Any one in the so cal area with any good recommendations on a good shop or someone that will do this swap for me? Please respond

There is a lot of labor in this swap. And the parts aren't cheap either. If you pay someone else to find used or buy new parts, they are going to charge for that too. I'm going to take a wild guess at $4K to $6K plus with parts.

the Driveshaft would be the worry-some part of it for me. how would i know what i would need before buying it?

only a few different ones that could fit>?
only one?

the bell housing i see a ton for big blocks but also different inches.

if i buy this package at brewers. how easy would it be for me to do this swap ?

still need shop assistance?
still need shop related tools? like welder and heavy duty tools?or would this be a pretty straight forward self install?

The only shop assistance you might need was welding in the four speed hump for the shifter. Some people seal and pop rivet it in place so you really could do it yourself in the garage. Any local driveline shop can build you a new drive shaft. I've had several built here locally and it's not budget breaking.

wow, sounds perfect

so let me ask this. though its been answered several times...

A body big block 4 speed package - is what i would need
as far as the gear ratios and the bell housing size wont matter? as long as its BB?

WHERE I'M getting at here is..... pretty much asking if anyone else has done this before on a similar car with a big block...

i ask because my car is all stock with 440 BB stock headers and all nothing cut on the engine bay so this is pretty well snug in there....

and as it is already the steering column and the power steering box already rub on the headers... and with this application the Z bar will need its own room to fit. and god knows what else.... so ....
im thinking i might have issues in that department.

Ya, could be "made" to fit. But so many other "drop right in" units for sale out there. Just get one that makes it easy :)
Auto to 4 speed? Z bar requires the frame bracket, or use Hydraulic...depends on the look you want.
Floor hump....you need that with 4 speed. Some headers don't allow z-bar use so Hydraulic is the only option there
I have two BBlock A bodies Factory cars..... Lots of fun ;)
