Well all i got a new wheel and the adapter (4312) for my 67 Dart. The instructions are vayge to say the least. All is off ..the old wheel and all i see is the turn sig. cam and thats all. Bare bones. No were in the istructions does it have anything in regards to the turn sig, lever, switch or cam????????Basically a pic of a empty housing with the threaded aspect of colomn and attach as follows....Basically thinking i should had a beer or two/ Not impressed

You don't have to mess with the stuff under the wheel, but add the hub and wheel on starting from there.

Did the kit come with the splined hub that goes on the steel shaft?

(Just took one off and put another on today) :)

Ah HA! Perfect.
That peice goes on above all the signal stuff.
See that little wheel in your column for the horn contact?
That copper surface on the back of the hub only goes down far enought to touch that wheel.

If you need it I can tell you the order the other parts that go on if you show a picture of them all.

Usually it would be,
That hub, the large cover, the big nut and 3 bolts, then the adapter can and wheel, then horn.
But this sometimes varies depending on the design of the wheel attaching bolts and horn button.
Don't forget you have to thread the horn wire from that hub up through the other things as you put them on.

On my new wheel from Forever Sharp the horn button hub bolts down with the same bolts that hold the wheel on.
On my old one (Grant) the horn button was attached to the wheel and the bolts that held the wheel itself on the adapter can were only to hold the wheel on the adapter can.

And if it seems like the hub won't go on far enough, make sure the steering shaft didn't slip down inside the column.
There is supposed to be a small ring that sits in a groove on the shaft to keep it up in place.

This isn't exactly like your column, but it is similar enought to show the ring I mentioned.

It's hard to tell in the pic of your column, but it does kind of look like the shaft doesn't stick up high enough and it will do that if the ring is missing.

Pull up on the shaft and see if it comes up almost and inch.

Trail- have you had success with the Grant wheels. I have installed a couple, but could never get the horn to function properly?

Yup.

Put your signal cam all back in there. See that little round nub, that's what turns off your signal when coming out of a turn, the copper part contacts that little roller you see so that your horn works.

Greg has got you on the right path.

Trail I think he has the clip. If you look at the pick you can see the clip. Its flat with a gap

I put this on my Dart and it works perfect , even the horn works great , and i know years ago when you purchasewd one from Canadian tire , we used to throw the button away .But this works really good .I now have another in silver on the car and it is really good also .

I have found when tightening the aluminum hub into place if you do it with the column cap in place you can see how far onto the spline it needs to be by watching the gap close toward the upper collar. Leave a slight gap so it doesn't rub
when being turned.

Thank you, Thank you..........I see the lock ring too. Im going to check and make sure the shaft didnt slip and the lock ring is in place......:cheers:Will post in later. Again Thanks

:prayer:Thanks Man,,,,,,,I checked the shaft. It was loose. I put the nut on a touch and pulled it up and all is good in that regards. Looks like all pieces are ok. A bit of a gap at wheel to housing but no biggy. The only problem i have is the dam main nut to shaft. Looks like the end of the shafts threads are screwed. It starts then off it comes. Nothing seems to go easy for me anymore:banghead::banghead:Simple tasks take way to long........Thanks again and everyone.

Try a shallow socket and stuff some paper or something inside it so you can press down on the nut while turning.
Sometimes that works when a nut is a little stubborn about going on.

This is the new Forever Sharp brand wheel I just put on, and the one that came off.

The horn has always been the sketchy part about Grant wheels.
I just mod things where they work if needed, like the new wheel I just put on.

I made a new wire inside it for the horn because the manufacturer designed it to ground through the wheel and adapter and I wanted the ground connected direct to the hub/shaft.

Thanks for the info will try that. Heres a pic of what it is as of now. Not the greatest wheel nor expensive. When you dont have one its better than nottin!

That looks pretty good if you ask me.

All you need to do now is put the spring over the shaft and snap the horn button on.

Looks good. You would be surprised at how much of a difference in steering reducing the size of the steering wheel makes. Driving is significantly more fun for me now. Looks good. Post the finished product when you wrap it up.

Thanks everyone, as soon as i get that main nut to shaft on and the instrument panel finished i will. Been a busy bee with getting the inside done. With winter here i left certain projects i can do when its cold.

I like it. Classic hot rod style. Looks great in there. The fact they are inexpensive is just a bonus.
