I'm not looking to sell the car so I'm not worried about that part. Are gold duster worth keeping original? I bought this car for less than my new dodge avenger car payment. It had a fresh motor trans and rearend. 318 30 over mp cam 360 heads. EVERYTHING under the car is new or rebuilt. No miles on the car since everything redone The car sat in a garage for 10 years before I bought the car. It was first started up last week for the first time. To make a long story short I want to do the body and paint. So I keep it original or paint it like I want to. The car has a snake skin top, I don't know this these cars are rare yes its not a 340 car so.....give me your opinion. The blue duster is what i'm thinking about doing

i am interested in some pic of your car . there is a sticky in one of the fourms on how to post pics

Oh, it's worthless. But, I'll give you $100 if it'll help you out.:violent1:

Love these cars! Do what you want to it and enjoy!!!:blob:

that set of rallye's might ne worth more than that avenger's monthly payment?????
sounds like ya got a great little car at good price, enjoy it and make it as ya like.
question: how many snakes did they have to skin to do that top!????? LOL

Its really not worthless but not worth money like other mopars. For $400 i will take this worthless car anyday. Tons of paperwork how much the guy spent in the car

Barbee, i just picked up the top yesterday and I've had the car for two weeks. Been trying to get the car to run right. The carb so looks brand new but from sitting for 10 years i think the carb need a rebuild kit

I was just kidding. I think this car is worth at least a few thousand, so if you got it for $400, you stole it!

I like the Gold Dusters, you don't really see them around at shows or anywhere because someone has always ripped off the roof and turned it into something else.

This is my cousin's '72 Gold Duster, was a 318 auto. He painted it, made the interior black, and has gone through a 360, then 340, now 440.

been sitting 10 years? first thing to do is pull the gas tank. does it have what is left of 10 year old gas, turned to varnish?? blow air from the tank up to fuel pump ( disconect line at each end). pull the pickup out of tank, make sure its not pluged. is its gasket still good, is the g rommet for the filler neck still good? if carb ever had gas in it, should take it apart and soak in cleaner, new gaskets, check float level. make sure you have safely functioning brakes. anytime a cars, it will be hard on new parts put on there 10 years ago, even if sat inside garage. water will find its way into brake fluid, and that will booger the MC and brake cylinders. all these things are just part of it. work but still fun especially since you lucked into a car that will make a great cruiser.

73 will have vacuum lines runnin everywhere less someone ditched them. a vacuum leak anywhere will make it run rough for sure. sometimes ya can buy a product called "seafoam". real mechanics ( i'm NOT one), have told me to pour half botton down carb, some say let it sit overnight, it can bring gaskets back to life and clean out some carb problems. it will SMOKE like a b---- when ya start it,..... I would run a car like you have a while, change out the oil, making sure I get rid of anything not wanted in the oil system.... maybe some other members have advice here.

don't worry what it might be worth. get er going, make it like ya want, and enjoy the hobby!

The best way to truly enjoy the car is to make it what you want! It is not particularly valuable as a Gold Duster, the value to you is in the enjoyment factor!! Go with the Burger King on this one and "Have it Your Way"!!! Geof

The blue with white interior is a hot look & I'm a fan of the stripes as well. Go for it

Not worth a ton, the Gold Duster option itself isn't that rare. The snakeskin top option is a little rare, but it's not going to significantly impact the value of the car. They're a cool vinyl top, but vinyl tops are a disaster for cars that aren't garaged 100% of the time or are driven in any kind of weather. Ever.

The car is probably worth $2- $3.5k it sits, depending on the condition of things and what's been done to it. Looks like a good car to start with!

No harm in going with the blue and white treatment, given that it's a '73 and not a 340 car there isn't a ton of additional value in being restored to bone stock original.

I'm going to paint it the blue with the white decal. i paint car for a living so that's easy. so i might have a $800 after painting and body work

Just like a true love. Put your heart and soul into your build and do your very best and if it feel's good that's the right one or one of the right one's for you. If it don't ditch it. look's like a great car. don't worry about what it is worth ya probably wont get near what you put into it anyway with all of your time and materials involved. just like many of us here. Have fun and enjoy.

I would do just as you said. Have fun with it!

BARBEE, Thank for the information. i think i will be her in the garage and go though everything to make sure its good. The carb is already off. I have to check the rear gear oil because i know the dude told me he drained the oil and trans after breaking in the car before letting it sit for 10 years

best way to measure "success" with these are old cars is the "fun factor"! only thing that matters is how you feel about your car, not any opinions of anyone else, I.e. car show crowd, cruise- in folks, the what its worth bunch, or those that measure everything with the "rare" scale! LOL

I expect most of us enjoy looking at the high dollar ultra restored " correct to the pimple on the screw " car, I do... do I want one ,, no... but I respect the work and/or money put in it.

I love looking at the zillion $$$ darg car at the local little track... do I want one... no, can't afford to build it first, and second, couldn't afford to fix it if it broke!!! LOL

again. congrats on finding what will be a great car!!!
