I have a 1970 duster 340 which is a 4 speed manual and I wish to purchase a set of headers for it but am sure on what band to buy from a fitting perspective. Base on some articles I have recently read it would appear the some bands have to be modified in some form for clearance purposes. Can anyone advice on what band(s) are best suited for a duster application

Its always between Dougs and TTI's. Go to the Search field at the top of the page and do a search. Any question you could possibly ask has been answered twice.

Any pics of the duster?

You can find a lot of info about fitment on the TTI Exhaust site. They have the best chassis as well as ground clearance and you don't need an oil filter adapter. The 1 5/8"- 1 3/4" step helps make them a very versatile header. I have them on my race car with a 3" X-pipe and Dynomax UltraFlos ending at the rear end.

Actually Doug's have a higher ground clearance than TTI, not by much though.

Those are the two copanies to consider. Everyone else has the 1 size fits all design or shorty headers.

I've got Hooker Super comps on my duster. They're great but maybe not for a car thats really low in the front

Depends on your enginebuild and such but for a mild 340 i think Dougs,TTI 1 5/8-1 3/4 step headers or the Schumacher4-2-1´s would all be nice options.
However i know that TTI requires some modifcitions to the clutchlinkage to work on 4speeds dont know about the others.

Edit: just realized you are from Australia,is the car right or left hand driver, this could give you some trouble with options

Thanks for the reply the car is still left hand drive

Stay away from flow tech headers or any other brand that use that design where the tie rod goes threw the header. That's what was on my car when I bought it and I haven't got around to swapping them out yet because you have to pull the motor. That design traps the starter and you have to get a really slim WIX oil filter to be able to get it on and off.
