I still think of the 60s as being my favorite era for music. So I have to share this story. Several months ago I took my 64 Sport Fury to the mechanic. One of the radio stations that I used to listen to back in the 60s is still on the air -- and they are playing oldies. So I'm using the old AM radio and a 50-year-old speaker and the sound was half-way decent. It was a way cool experience driving in the old Plymouth and listening to oldies. It took me back.

Anyway, 3 of my favorites back then were: Sunshine Girl, Oh How Happy, and Bend Me Shape Me.

One more thing. About 6 weeks ago the Eagles came to town and did a live concert. If they come to your area (or even close to your area), do NOT miss it.

This song takes me back to the winter of 1977 , driving my moms mercury to high school.

Am/FM radio and a big block

I'll take the longest leap back to an event that is indelible in my mind. It was 1958, I was 16 years old and visiting an uncle in another state. When he saw me drooling over his black '57 Chrysler 300C hardtop", he threw me the keys and said: "Go out and beat up on some Corvettes and Thunderbirds!"

No sound in the world will ever match the sound of dual-quads at full throttle sucking air through unsilenced air cleaners as they feed a 392 Hemi. That sound is unforgettable, but Chris Barber's rendition of Petite Fleur is the go-back key to those Mopar memories.

Some of you might remember this song from the Movie "Heart Like a Wheel" about Shirley Muldowney's life. It was played during the scene when she had her first street race.

Some of the older guys might remember it from the radio circa: 1959.

First heard it in American Graffitti "s TV debut ( network TV , '77-78...?) Track 3 on the double CD album. Such a beautifully simple recording, one of my absolute favorite songs. ( simplicity , at it)'s best.
