I am starting on a drag car want to get it into the 8 second range what nhra class to run Top Sportsman you have to run 7.99 or better so would I be better off with comp class?

Unless you have a very "large" wallet, I'd look at Super Comp ( 8.90 index racing ) vs Comp Eliminator to start out.

If by chance you do have the budget for Comp, I want to be your friend. :D

Lol Scott... I'm thinking maybe the same thing....

Nothing like jumping in to a 8 sec (1/4 mile) car.... All the best to you, please post videos of your first passes.

I want to run flat out with my hair on fire that's the way drag racing should be done .Leave the line then it looks like your car dies and then re fires and takes off not racing.

Planning 4130 tube chassis floater rear axel 540 cubes on twin carbs with all the trimmings. building in house with help about 35k when done.

rah64dart sound's like you want to run head's up. PSCA- Pacific Street Car Association has many classes you might be interested in.Travel is required. check out there rules and schedule on there website. them Boy's and Girl's are fast. www.pscaracing.com or call Mel at 661-917-3078

Nothing like jumping in to the deep end of the pool to learn to swim. LOLOLOL
Top Sportsman IS under 7.99 to run , but you'd best be a lot closer to the 6's if you want to compete.
I don't want to sound like I am not for you being all you can be , but I think a ton of homework would be in order before you find your " home ".
Heads up classes..........well , a good used motor can be had for your budget.
Not within your budget.........your entire budget.
Can it be done cheaper ?
Certainly.
But cheaper seldom equals competitive.

Cash has been always my downfall. Like I over heard at a drag race. Quote, How do you become a millionaire at racing, Start out a billionaire.

I think Jeggies Pro STocker is for sale...........

you guys make me laugh I don't plan on winning out of the gate and I will eventually get there keep your eyes open. Only time will tell.

I do wish you the best of luck.
But the tone of your posts speak of an inexperience that no amount of confidence can overcome.
Not even with luck.
Plan on sticking one toe in the water to see if it suits you and don't jump in unless you are sure how deep it is.
I don't know why I am full of swimming analogies today.......I swim like a cinder block.
But there are certain truths and realities that need to be faced.
You might one day make the cover of National Dragster.
But there is a ladder to success in any field.
And we learn with every rung.

you should go to some of the Midwest top sportsman races in IL to check out some of the cars. I run top sportsman, it's not cheep.

I think the budget for a bud's, father-in-law's, Comp operation must be somewhere around $150K a year. He runs V-6 Chevys, in a model T bodied setup, to get to his 8 second jollies. The man is certainly hooked on drag racing, although last I knew he was having trouble making the physical, to keep his racing license.

little fish big pond big fish little pond just looking to step up and trying to get some info been around drag racing all my life looking to jump in to the deep end sometimes your the bug and sometimes your the windshield like I said only time will tell. But you can keep the bashing coming I have big shoulders.

Ain't bashing and I wish you great luck or happy hunting. I'm jealous, of course, and wish I had the funds to do what you are talking about and I'm sure most of the other guys here feel similar.
Classracer.com is a favorite visit for me and once in a while I stop by at Comp racing forum.
I hope you keep me up to the minute, on what your program will be, so that I can watch another great Mopar, kick butt.
