With our sleds, we fog them while running like you did, but shut the fuel off to them. So they run until they are out of gas. Then we siphon out the tank and the little bit we cant get we dump in a stabilizer. Never had a problem doing it that way.
Part of the shut down ritual, even if it will be started the next day is to turn the fuel off and let it run the karbanater dry. Every karbed scooter I have ever owned I shut them off this way..had a float hang up one day and it emptied the tank out.....was out in the sticks when it happened.....
