My first post in a while...I'm in! I'm all about budget. I still have my Dart Sport, and it's gonna look ratty. 8.25 gears are pretty easy to come by...got a great 904...360 shortblocks a plenty...used mp purple cam/timing set/etc.
Oh, and Rob, remember how much I didn't pay for those econo W2s? I still have them.
My question: Is there a time constraint?

I am gonna rock the boat a little with this question. Does it have to be Mopar? I ask because the thing I have closest to running is a Ford product. If it does have to be a Mopar, that's cool.

Well, we'll see what i can do with a bunch of used parts, new gaskets, and some time with the die grinder in the ports to clean up the heads.
I'll take some weight out of the car that costs nothing but time and work......
I think i'll baseline it as is though after i install the new clutch this spring.
This should be fun!
Tom.

Sounds good Tom. I was thinking that we should leave the heads as cast myself. While you are talented enough to work with the die grinder, others may not be so brave.

All results should be repeatable by the rookie.

Everybody, base line your cars and then Go from there.
If your already built up, no worries, just run it!
I also understand that all the results I get will not be repeatable. Living close to sea level has an advantage over the Mile High crew. You guys gotta work real hard to repeat my results.

OK, after breakfast, I'm goi g to write out the rules of this for fun adventure.
Then we can discuss them and maybe modify them.
Let's not get crazy as some people here can read between the lines and bend rules well.
Let's just have some fun with this.

I would like to do this but I have no extra cash none. But I know where I can get a decent 66 Barracuda for $500.00 or less and a running 360 cheap.I thought maybe later on I could buy it and just build the car out of Swap meet,FABO, and Craigslist parts.Just a car to get running and spend as little as possible on it.But I am so broke I can't even do that right now....LOL

Well, if you can squeeze in, great! Look forward to you joining in.

No time issues to worry about. Get to the track as soon as you can and help light the fire!

Now your W2 heads. Lets think out loud a second on this. How many other people will come across a set for cheap or free? Now what would it take to replicate it with a person paying normal speed shop/mail order house prices?
Is that on the cheap for them? For you it was. But for the masses? Looking to replicate....

I have an out, sort of, next year, we'll have the same competition but with expanded room for growth above the basic builds done in this round of fun. Let me ponder....:banghead::violent1:

Hummm, good question!
Well, I would hate to lock out a member due to not having a MoPar at the ready. Even though it is a MoPar forum with MoPar car and drive trains. I think the same basic principal applies.

I'll vote, sure, come on in.

What do you guys say?

Why not include non mopar cars?
I vote yes, welcome one and all with the same rules of course.
More in the spirit of ''run whatcha brung''........

Oh, believe me, i am a rookie at porting heads too!
All i would do is remove some casting flash and maybe a simple gasket match, that's all.....

Now I have a car with no engine in it so not running but I am going to be fixing it up very soon and get it running within these rules .. Am I aloud to do that?? I realize a lot of other people having running driving cars

What?! You mean start with a shell and swap in an engine.

HELL YEA! Go for it!

Guide line rules and regulations are up.

I'm not going to accept PM's on this topic. Beileve it or not, I have people complaining already that it is not fair. If this is how you see it, take a walk and please don't join us.
Wait until next year to add your ported heads and power adders.

Here's a thread for some ideas that may fit into the "On the Cheap" run for fun.
http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=165040

This is a great idea! But...I dunno if I can do it. I might follow the" cheap as you possibly can" concept, but I don't have any stock heads I haven't ported at least a little, stuff like that. So, it might kinda kick me out of the competition, since stuff like W2 heads are a little unfair (I am just a very frugal shopper! Lol). But, I may still stick to the rules as closely as I can, just to show what may, or may not, be accomplished by shopping/ bartering/ experimentation/ etc! This thread, and competition, gets back to the basics of hot rodding, instead of throwing money at something to make it faster. Awesome!

Exactly and thank you.

I would hate to say no just on a super killer deal made of the W2 heads. It just seems a bit unrepeatable for the next guy. What would be the entry cost through a mail order shopping spree for W2 heads? Just a bare head alone is approx. $650. After you get all the other parts in on the head plus the ascco. machine work, what are you in for. Considering you are having it all done by someone.

If you want to join in, I guess an "*" would apply. Extra extra expense category?

What does the crowd say about this?
You guys wanna let a as cast W2 head in on this?
I'd love to see Metalidart run. Even more so because he has as cast W2 heads. Even though it is a bit beyond cheap.

OK then I am IN. My entry will be my 76 Mercury Bobcat, which I have nicknamed the RobKat. Although I may not meet the deadline, I will try. This will be good motivation to get something done on a dormant project.

there are two threads on this :eek:ops: im in and I posted in the other thread that im in with a 70 dart that will resemble a F.A.S.T. category car, even though I know we are not divided up into categories here.

This should be the thread to ask and comment on but since I posted up my entry......

This will be fun to see what comes up, but I think a lot of folks are going to have only 2k into a car using 4k worth of parts from the garage. To me that equals 6k, but that's fine. All in fun. It will be interesting to see. :)

I'm in for the *extra expense* category! Unless I find a set of heads that don't need anything other than cleaned up lol. I'll start a thread as soon as I can, I guess also to show what you can accomplish by just doing research and careful shopping, etc. I know it won't be an optimum combo, but, I'm curious to see what I can do. I think a lot of you will be surprised when I start listing prices, what I traded, etc. Its taken me years to get this far, but it's another way of looking at going fast on a budget.

I'm trying to find a suitable car as I speak .. No luck so far
I don't know what you got going on over there, but that Duster looked like a great start.

No one yet seems to care if you run the W2 heads or not. If they do, maybe someone can donate a set of ready to run heads? LMAO!

Hey! Stranger things have happened to me.....

This is awesome, I'm looking for a project.

Hahaha no kidding! That would be awesome! I am going to double check in my basement, and my brothers house. I thought I still had a set of heads from my 85' 360, but it's been a while since I did an inventory lol.

Looking very forward to you and I hope more people joining in on the run for fun!
Ga. Has got to have some inexpensive cars hanging around!
