I have a 72 Duster with a stock 8.75 rearend and stock axles with the small 4" bolt pattern.

Who is near Akron Ohio 44305 that can re-drill my axles to the 4.5 pattern?
Would they need to weld-up any holes in the axles before re-drilling them?
What does this normally cost to drill the axles and 2 drums?

Also, is it possible to drill these axles to a 5" Chevy bolt pattern? I'm only asking because I know someone with some affordable rear wheels in the 5" pattern.

I'll say no on the 5" BC. Just not enough meat.

If you deiced to drill to 4.5", use screw in studs, not knurled. Screw in keep a bit more material around the outside edge.

Crackedback, I should have thought about screw in studs when I put the knurled ones on there 25 years years ago, while it's been through five engines and still has it today...

I have them in both configurations and prefer the screw in if starting from scratch.

I've run some decent power through a knurled set as well.

Pick your parts, pay your money.

Thanks, that's a great suggestion on the studs.
What does re-drilling normally cost?

Do what you think is right but there isn't any chance in hell I'd have axles redirlled to a different bolt pattern. Way not just call up dr. diff and order a set or replacement axles? They aren't super expensive and a car better choice than a re-drill in my opinion!

Got 80K miles on my redrilled axles. Pretty rough ones.

I'd think Moser would do it.

Ok thanks guys, great info!

1970Duster, there is nothing wrong with re-drilling to a 4.5 pattern for a street only car. I even ran 11's in a 340 Scamp for a few years with stock re-drilled axles.
I've raced 9 second cars for years with all the good parts, the Duster I have now is just for cruisin. And it's WAY cheaper to do it this way. :)
