Picked up a 10-68 date code 383 for my 69 dart last Sunday, and this big block trans . If it is an a body trans it would be awesome, or trading stock if not. Numbers on right rail are 2953689L2595 9053. Number on housing is 7545. Thanks in advance nwdart

Can you see two letters, like PK on the driver side rail, towards the middle? The Seven digits after that will be the number. the above numbers don't match anything. 2801543 is the 67' A body, 2892031 is the 68 A body ,2892091 is the 69' A body. 2892093 is the 440 A body transmission. 2892007 is the 68' Hemi A body transmission.

According to my list it's from a 69 D-100 pickup with a 383 engine. Why are you specifically wanting an A-body transmission? The only difference with a 727 from an a-body and a truck is the truck trans might hold more clutch plates and have 4 pinion planetaries (all good things IMO) where-as the a-body trans probably has 3 pinion planetaries and holds less clutch plates. If your Dart uses the stock console shifter the truck transmission may not have the 2 lobes on the bottom of the tailshaft housing to mount the plate that the shifter rod goes through but that can easily be remedied by swapping the housing to one that has those lobes.

Those are the left side numbers under shifter mech. Not right side as I posted, looking at left side of trans. Was hoping it was a body but obviously not. Still would like to figure out what it is thanks nwdart

The 2595 should equal a build date of 9/4/1968. I think Fishy's assessment is correct?

Was hoping it was a body

I don't get? what difference? that would make? that box will FIT an A body. Only the manual gearboxes are special shaft lengths

Only other real difference is if you have a factory console shifter, you need the "bottom bracket" holes in the casting nub in the bottom of the tail housing.

Thanks guys, my first big block. Did not know what it was or if it would fit. Answered Craigslist add for 37 plymouth coupe last sat afternoon that was rat Rod,roof cut off turned conv. Had fresh 383 with trans ,mopar performance valve covers in the box,m1 intake new plus lots more.1500 Or best offer. Add was up for an hour when I saw it,offered 1200 he said yes. 200 miles one way. Did not really want the car but has maybe aspen or diplomat front end grafted on with discs and a 8 3/4. Nwdart
