I would like to put a 68 S/S hood on my 67 dart GT. Who sells the nicest hood? I prefer bolt-on. Thanks.

Patience, new member. Folks are just getting off of work. No need to bump your post in the same day. The members will see it when they log on.

AAR makes and sells crap. my RO23 scoop for the belvedere is a piece of junk they should have been ashamed of. Had all kinds of porosity holes and is no where near square. I would look elsewhere if I wanted quality fiberglass than AAR

Try Kramers or sled city

WHY do you want that backward parachute on your car

I would guess because he likes the looks maybe:burnout:

Exactly. Some of us think they look pretty bad ***. Mine is just a bolt on scoop on a steel hood, but same effect. It's just sittin on there for now, but you get the idea.

Who did you buy yours from? Does anyone know if there is a template for cutting in the hole in the hood? Thanks all!

I bought mine from a member here who went another direction. I don't know who made it.

Do a search and there are threads that tell you exactly where the scoop is placed.

If I may be so bold...what did Kramer charge for their SS hood? Approximation is fine. Thanks.

kramerauto.com $995.00 for hood and scoop pin on only

glassteck.com hood with scoop hood bolt on $870.00
super stock scoop std . bolt on $210.00
super stock 5 inch tall scoop bolt on @230.00

usbodysource .com hood with 4 inch scoop $389.00 looks like you may have to cut
scoop opening out . have used before quality so so

sled city fiberglass 68 hemi dart hood with scoop $450.00 probably pin on On most glass hoods if they are bolt on will have to remove springs and hold up with a prop rod

shipping will be extra hope this helps with your question .....

It does thank you. I will want a pin on hood like the original LO23 darts SS cars came with from the factory. I suspect you get what you pay for and most likely will go with Kramer even though it is more $$$. The only problem maybe getting Kramer to have one to ship. Thanks again.

The hemi hoods usually have 2 rods going from top to bottom , this scoop design catches a LOT of air . with out these 2 rod's it will tear it self apart at speed . In the past I have used 2 1/4 stainless carrage bolts , grind off the small squares on the bottom of the heads , sand down the top's to remove any lettering on top and polish them to a high shine. Go to anyplace that sales knitting needles and find the extra large ones , most are made of aluminum and come in colors ....you will have to measure the to the correct length and cut them with a tubing cutter . Locate the correct place to drill 2 holes , place the carrage bolt in the hole , between the inside top of the scoop and the knitting needle place a polished 1/4 flat washer . this will keep the tubing from cutting in to the glass scoop . next you will need a second 1/4 washer to go between the tube and the hood , keeps the paint from being scratched . feed this thru a hole that you have drilled in the hood and put a nut and lock washer on it . if done correctly you can pick the hood up with them .. I picked a factory hemi hood for a 68 cuda , to use on my 67 . installed with 4 hood pins the hood would bow up several inches at speed ( 125 mph ) went back and installed 4 more hood pins helped a lot ..

could you tell me what all you did to the dart minus cage and where you got it all?? thanks

My Dart is a factory Hemi Dart and I got it the way you see it. The guy who found it when it was literally out to pasture. It had 67Dart GT fenders, doors, and trunk lid on it with a small block k-frame. He bought the repop A-Body Hemi k-frame and Kramer hood and fenders. The cage is what the original owner put in it. Joe DeSantis (he races Pro Stock motorcycles nowadays) raced it for a few years after the original owner sold it. It was originally called the Poison Dart and that is what Joe has on his bike today.

Just another thing to think about . If you have a pin on hood when you remove it , where do you put it ? Sitting it on edge will mess up the hood corners , if you lay it on the ground some one might step on it ,place it on top of the car but the wind might blow it off . My hood was on a race car , I glued pieces of foam on 4 locations under the hood so it could be set on top of the car but still had to watch the wind and the foam got dirty . Just a thought if your car is not going to be a full time race car the bolt on hood would be a better option , take the stock hood springs off and use hood pins on the front edge of the hood , when you open the hood make up a couple of prop rods to go over the hood pins and thru the pin holes in the hood again food for thought been both directions with hoods and deck lids .

It depends on how you pin it on. If you use Dzus fasteners then there isn't a good way to put it anywhere except for the glue on foam. If you use hood pins then you can make rods like an A12 car and just raise the hood with 4 rods. When the new Mr. Norms Hemi Darts were made that is how we did it.

Yep , you are right , when I had mine it was 1971 , hood pins were the norm , just trying to give him some old mans wisdom and thoughts . I built a 1972 Dodge Colt in the mid 1985 time frame and used 12 dzus fasteners for the glass hood . Helped a friend build a 1971 Pro street Demon in 1990 , glass hood with hole in it for the 8/71 blower ,used bolt on hood and made 2 stainless rods that were set over the 2 front hood pins and bent a little to take care of the angle when the hood was open . I do not think he ever stated where the car was a race car or street car or show car . I started with 4 hood pins and had to use 4 more for a total of 8 to hold the hood down without bowing in the middle at 125 mph . I got a set of fenders and the hood off one of the factory cars in 1971 for $150.00 ......
