Does anyone know what the biggest wheel and what offset will fit on an A body 8 3/4 with aftermarket 5x4.5" axles with disc brakes on an early A body? Its for my 64 valiant and I was hoping to fit a 15x10" wheel with a reasonable offset, so I don't have to get custom wheels with a huge backspace or narrow my rear housing. I dont have the axles or brakes yet, but I'm thinking of going with Dr. Diff.

Its a 3 link with the bars moved inboard. No mini tub yet, but I'm willing to do that to get a 275/60/15

You're going to have to mini-tub it. Next thing you will have to look at is the front of the tire contacting the lower part of the fender opening. That's a 28" tall tire and early-a's have a hard time fitting that size without moving the axle back or trimming sheetmetal.

I've got the same rear end setup with leaf springs on my '68 Dart and I don't think I'd be able to fit anything larger than a 9" wheel under my stock wheel wells. Granted, I'll be running an 18" diameter wheels so I'll be getting much less tire flex than you will with a 15" wheel. I'll be running 255/40/18's on all 4's.

Thanks guys. My lower bars mount to the rms leaf spring boxes, so I can move the rear back if need be.

Hey MuuMuu101, do you know what offset your wheels are?

With your non stock combination you will have to measure. You can fit a 15x7 on a stock rear/spring set up with a 4" backspace. With a custom offset wheel may be a 8"wide wheel with a little wheel opening rolling depending on the tire. You have a modified combination that will require you to measure. tmm

I have 275/60R15 on my 64 Dart. Moved the springs in 3". Rolled the qtr lip a little. Still a tight fit. Rims are 15 x 8" with a 4 3/4" backspace.

So after the mini tub, it seams I'm gonna have to narrow my rear about 3" unless I get a 10" wheel with 7" of backspace, right? I want that deep dished look in the back.

I run 28 12.5,s on 15x10,s with 4 1/2" BS. My 65 is mini tubbed to the frame rails with a narrowed 8 3/4

Hey MuuMuu101, do you know what offset your wheels are?

For my specific car, I got about +18mm for the rears and about a +30mm for the front. The fronts fit perfectly except under full droop and full lock they hit the rear of the frame rail, but I figured I'd never been in that situation for 99% of my driving. The bbp axles and disc brakes pushed the mounting flange out a bit. I still recommend you measure your specific car. I'll be ordering wheels for about the 4th time on Monday. Hopefully this time the wheel won't be discontinued, the distributor won't be lazy and find out if the manufacturer has the wheel, or the manufacturer will actually ship a wheel within ample time.

SWEET! I just found a local guy that can narrow rearends. What would be a good housing width for an off the shelf 10" wheel. 49"?

With stock wheel wells on a 65 Cuda you can fit a 17 X 9 rim, with a 275 tire. I have the springs moved in and the rear end set back 3/4 of an inch to centre the wheel in the wheel well. I have a stock 69 A body 8 3/4 with 4.5 pattern and wildwood disc brakes.
My rear rims are +24mm with a 5.95 back space.

I have 275/60-15's on my dart with the springs moved in about an inch and I am running 15x8 cragars with a 4 1/8 in back space (this was the most they could do). I didn't have to roll the lip either. It is an extremely tight fit but they work.

I really appreciate your input everyone! I'm gonna go with a 17" rim later in life for sure, but until I can afford it, a 15" steelie will have to do.

Feel free to post up some big rimmed early a pics!
