Traditional Japanese wood working is an honored skill. Over the years I've accumulated a number of traditional Japanese hand tools, and have found that in many occasions, they are THE tool needed to get various things done.
I have a well equipped wood shop, with a lot of stationary and and hand held power tools. It's amazing how often I STILL revert to using hand tools.

The workman ship shown in your videos is impeccable and clearly demonstrates the value of their "apprenticeships" over our trade schools.
 
That beam joint is really impressive. I gotta figure out how to do that...
 
Frankie,I know what you are saying about hand tools.I was always amazed that my grandfather built their house and only had a rip and a cross cut saws,a brace and bits,and a 1/4" drill.Oh and one wood chisel and basic hand tools.

yes the Japs are craftsmen. my dad was stationed in Japan after they whipped them. he had a guy make a full set of handmade china, and watched him paint the scenes on it with brushes that had 1 or maybe 2 hairs???? it is impressive.
