I am looking for a coolant temp sender that is closed when coolant is cold and opens when coolant is warm. Around 150 to 170 degrees.
Does anybody know where I could get one?

Open/closed? I wasn't aware there is such an animal. Most senders I have used are just of a plug type nature that sense the temp.

No. I want a sensor that when the coolant is cold it will be on and when the engine warms it will turn off. I want to use a solenoid on my carb so when the engine is cold it will hold the high idle and when the engine warms up it will release the solenoid.
I dont have a choke so this is how I am trying to warm up the engine.
I hope you can follow me on this.
Opposite of what a sensor does for an electric fan.

I used to do Chevys and I recall that in the mid sixties they had a "cold" light that came on when cold and went off when the engine warmed up a little. Ya might be able to find one of those sensors from someone who's into "perfect" restoration of Chevys. It seems I remember there was a green light and a red light side by side in the dash. If the engine got hot the red light would come on and the green one came on upon engine cold start.

Sounds like what I put on my wood stove circulator fan could work. I have it set-up for the fan to run only when the stove is warm, so mine is normal open, but you can get them N.C on eBay. Just search 'thermal switch closed' and find one with temp you want.

..................the mid 60s ford cars had a switch that turned on a blue light in the dash when cold, when warm it went out....a red light came on when the engine was over temp............kim...

Do you want vacuum , or electrical? Vacuum, would be a thermal valve switch. If so, the local Napa/Carquest ignition illustration paper catalogs have open and close numbers.Your description is vague, talk to us more with description.

how about a bi-metallic spring switch, like an electric choke setup? 12V (or much less) heats metal and warps it over heating to another contact.

How do I hook this to a relay and make it work? Does this open at 160 degrees?

The sensor looks like it opens at 160. According to the description. Just give them a call with the p/n I have dealt with them for years great place to buy weird stuff.
If you use a fan sensor type n/o normally open then you can use a relay and it is hard to explain but really simple. IF YOU ALREADY AVE AN E FAN THE E FAN HAS A RELAY YOU CAN USE THE UNUSED PORTION OF THE RELAY. If you go that way and need help let me know and I will draw it up for you.
