I am trying to get the tallest and widest tire on the duster. I am in the beginning stages of moving the springs in and have the chance to move the rear back instead of trimming, but if doing both will allow for an even taller tire, I will do it. So the question is, how tall of a tire can I go if the wheel is tucked in, Mini tub, springs relocated and rear moved back. Thanks!

Close up pictures of body/tire /suspension, (loaded\unloaded at rest) would help.

The suspension and everything is stock. Each Duster I believe runs into the same problem. I should have been more clear and asked for those that have experience with dusters, what would be more effective in getting a 30-31 in tire to fit because I would also like to lower the car over the wheel

Yeah, right. What rear end, what leaf springs, hangars underneath? Let's start ,there.

Shortened 8 3/4 50.25 drum face to drum face. SS springs about to be dearched and Spring sliders is going to be the setup and either stay in stock location or move rear back if it doesn't affect traction or anything

I don't have a duster but my barracuda required every trick in the book to get
31s to fit. You will be cutting your wheel openings.

De-arching the super stock springs will be defeating the purpose of them.
Are you just going for looks?

The lowering part is not going to work. You won't find any lowered a-bodies
with 31" tires stuffed up under the stock sheet metal just by moving the axle back.
You will have to cut and weld.
You can start with a Stanley tape or a tire. It will make it crystal to you very fast.

Then I will go 30. Mad dart has a 315/60/15 a 30 in tire TUCKED on a dart. And i have a duster. So.. I know that can be done. :)

I haven't seen that project in a while but I'm betting he's done tub work on his.

This is my brothers car with 29/15/15's. Mini tub and rear moved back 1/4 inch. you could move the rear back another 1/2 inch and fit 30 inch tall tires. With the Dana rear it would be very close to the stock fuel tank. With his smaller 325/50/15 MT DR on the same 10x15 wheel 71/2 BS there is lots of room to lower the car.

A Duster will never sit down low like a Dart/Scamp does over the tire. The rear quarters are cut higher so getting the tire to tuck up in there will be a cut chop rebuild project for sure.

Mine now is Ladder Bar. Moved back about 3/4" from stock. Fuel cell in trunk etc.

315/60/15's ET Street Radials fit easily. Get the same size tire in a MT ET Drag and you got problems. The section width bulges up higher than a MT Radial and creates an issue if you are lowering the car down like I did. I ended up with 28/10.5/15's MT ET Drags. The W tire will also fit in that size as a slick and I can still lower the car another 2" if I wanted. Will the stock K member allow the front of the car to keep up....... Uhhh, NOPE.

A 1968 B body front perch will move the axle back. A body perches crowd the front of the wheel well. Good for slicks with 2"+ springs.

I have mini tubbed the car. And if i have to I will cut the front part. Just wanted to know if moving rear back wouls give me even MORE clearance for possible 31 instead of 30

Perfect, I have moved the fuel tank to trunk and going with shorter rear end. I believe I will be able to fit possibly a 31, but will be going with a 315/60/15 for street now and track until I step up to a slick, but will make mods now. I know I can tuck the duster over the wheel. Just WATCH!

Your axle might hit the frame rails before it actually happens. Going over the tire a little bit like a couple inches I would say yes but trying to bury any part of the wheel might not happen unless you 4 link & full tubs.

Look at member rgreule's car. Leaf springs with a Hemidenny K frame. His car is pretty damn low and the rear quarter is barely over the tire.

There are a couple of guys with 345/50/18s which is a 14in wide tire and 28 tall. Some completely tucked and some lowered over. Doesn't have to tuck a great deal. Ill buy a tire mount and try it after i mount the new rear. The 315s are not as wide i believe. I will give it a shot and if it doesn't work I will figure it out for a different tire

The tire will fit. Getting it to sit low is a whole different story. You might get down over the tire a little bit but that is about all. The body will hit the ground before the quarter opening goes down over the wheel/rim is what I am getting at.

Post #14 is proof of that. There is almost the same amount of room from the rocker to the ground as there is from the quarter opening to the wheel/rim. Not to mention his oil pan that is already 3" off the ground.

I see what you are saying. The extra two inches makes it difficult because the body gets closer to the ground as I tuck the wheel. Well im de arching my springs 4, sliders and have adjustment for another inch lower or higher so I will mess with it and see what kind of backspace I need to get away from the outter 1/4. Was thinking 4in bs might work. I will but a used tire if I can find one to use. Also your setup would be exactly what I want. I know i can do exactly that with a 28in tire. It's the 29.5 that will be interesting but fine with an inch or teo higher than your setup

Even this would be nice, so between this and what you have is great for me.
