For most of us with the early Valiant Lancers, the mylar-coated rubber lockstrip trim that sits in (and fills out) our windshield rubber is probably looking less than terrific. The mylar by now has peeled off or is thinking about it....leaving the ugly grey rubber lockstrip behind.

This was a unique lockstrip to several early A bodies, somewhat flat, slightly concave with tiny grooves at 90 degrees to the axis of the strip. It's no longer reproduced although some lucky NOS might be out there.

I bought 14 feet of a very good replacement material off of eBay (currently for sale under item# 221165535627) and it worked perfectly. It is 0.530" wide and 0.240" thick which is only a few thou narrower and a few thicker than the original due to being slightly convex versus concave.

He sells new center clips (buckles) for the lockstrip, but I made my own with a small pieces of 0.003" stainless shim from a large sheet. [I have lots of it, free for the asking, I'll mail it to you].

Our windows have very tight lower corners - heating with a hairdryer and keeping it flat as you radius it worked perfectly.

A cheap set of $5 nylon trim tools (eg. Harbor Freight #69668) dipped in edible mineral oil or vegetable oil really helped to install it.

Makes a huge difference all for less than $100. Good luck.

Lancer Dave, I will take you up on the strip steel. I will send you a PM, THANKS!

Hi Dave,
Is the offer still available? Would this work for the windshield as well? If so, I would like to get 2 of them.
Thanks~
Patrick
