Unofficial Vote on Wheel tire combo

So, I’m taking a non-binding poll on what wheel tire combo to put on my 64 Dart 270 2dr sedan (i.e.: with B post.)

It has a slant 6 and will remain that way. I’m all about making it mechanically sound, but not a purist, and not a hot rod. Goal is 51% rat rod, with a clean interior so the wife will ride with me.

Currently have the original 13” with 185 70 R13 rubber. I want a little more aggressive stance and not so much ‘grocery getter’ with the little wheels and tall sidewalls.

So… Black steel wheels or Rallye wheels?

14” or 15” ? 7” width? I don’t see the need to go wide considering the modest engine.

How tall for the sidewalls? 55% 65%

I’d like the rear end a little higher than front - do I accompish that with wheels and tires, or suspension? Just had a front suspension rebuild with really great results.

Someday I may go front disc, but for now the car doesn’t go fast enough to worry about stopping.

I’m leaning towards, black steel wheels, 15”, with like 205 55 r15 tires. I’m a cyclist too and I have good experience with Continental rubber so I’m leaning towards them even though it’s ‘foreign’.

Thoughts? Opinions? … no haters please...

If you're wanting to keep the same diameter tire and not mess up your speedo, I'd run a P185/55R15 tire all the way around. It has the same diameter as the one's your running now. Fourteen inch tires get harder and harder to find every year, so if you're buying new wheels I'd get 15's. The tires above would fit nicely on some 15X6 steel wheels.

Get a nice set of dog dish hubcaps, and you'd be looking good!

As far as getting a better stance, new rear springs will get the rear end height set where you want it. They can be ordered at stock height, or +1 or +2 " if you like a little extra height in the back. When you rebuilt the front suspension, did you put new torsion bars in?

After good brakes, a good suspension is the best thing you can spend your money on IMHO. I'd even consider adding sub frame connectors. Even you don't plan on doing any performance driving, they will still tighten up your 50 year old chassis and make your car more enjoyable to drive. Add a set of good shocks and you should have a nice driving ride!
