Small Block Full Length Header Options - Ground Clearance

look at their sites, I think they all do.
fine with me, the only thing I've found a mini starter sucks with is a 340 drivers manifold

Sure, if you run at the stock 4WD ride height nothing is going to scrape.

Lol, my car doesn't sit any higher than yours pictured in post #12, in fact it might be a smidge lower, and I have right at 7" between the flange and ground.

I wasn't aware of any issues in regards to the clearance to the manifolds on a 340. More info please...

You're hilarious.

There is exactly 4" between the bottom of the header flange and the ground on my car. My frame rails are barely 7" off the ground.

So, unless you routed your exhaust through your floor pan, you're either measuring to somewhere other than the part of the flange that sits lowest to the ground, or your car sits higher. A LOT higher.

This picture was taken to show my subframe connector, but if you look in the lower left corner it also does a pretty decent job of showing that the header flange can't go any higher without notching the crossmember for the exhaust.

Sure, if you run at the stock 4WD ride height nothing is going to scrape.

But I'd be willing to bet that most people are lower than that, whether they intentionally lowered the car or just because the stock torsion bars have sagged over the last 40+years. And the suspension geometry is a heck of a lot better lowered from stock.

Even with the Doug's my headers flanges are at 4" to the pavement. I'd like to go another 1/4" to 1/2" lower, but I'm pretty close to the limit of what I need for suspension travel even with the 1.12" torsion bars.

That's just no true, buddy. Ghetto your crap out ridin low if you want to, but not everybody likes their crap like that. There's more opinion in the world than just yours. I happen to like tires that have stock width sidewalls and the suspension at the stock ride height in the front. Lots of other people do too. The FACT is the cheap headers will WORK FINE on vehicles so equipped. If you think a stock ride height A body is 4x4 height, you've owned some pretty sissified 4x4s.

Exactly. What do you expect from people who have limited experience with cars?

Original poster in other posts has said he was interested in autocross and other handling things. And since he was asking about ground clearance, it's apparent he is looking to run the car lower than stock.

Yes Rusty, it is exactly true.

Maybe my language was a little colorful, but nothing is going to scrape if your car is at stock ride height. So yes, you can run cheap headers if you're at stock ride height. I never said you couldn't. But then the entire header ground clearance conversation we're having here is pretty moot, don't you think? If you can't drag a set of below the steering link headers, it doesn't matter which ones have the best clearance does it?

So, maybe we weren't talking about cars that are at stock ride height?

Because maybe theres no point in even having this conversation for a stock height car?

Exactly. What do you expect from people who have limited experience with cars?

Well Rusty, I have over 20 years of experience working on cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Everything from British sports cars to old American hemi's, fire trucks and even a few tractors. And a few pretty capable 4wds too, whether you care to believe me or not.

And I'm sure my 20+ years of experience is nothing compared to you. But you know what? Doesn't matter. Because the fact that you always resort to name calling when someone doesn't agree with you tells me that you probably don't understand nearly as much as you think you do.

They have this photo on their website, so you could probably take a pretty good guess how they'll fit in your ride. Maybe someone who is actually running them could give us some measurements...

Nice pieces and hassle free in fittment but @ $950.00 US Convert to Aus dollar- $ 1300.00 + 100-200 shipping + custom fees and all the bullshit because its over 1 k to land them. Might settle for the D 453 and get them coated here.Cant stop checking them out i can picture these on my ride !

Thanks for pointing that out! I missed it.

I was funning with you man. Lighten up. I knew that'd grab you.lol

I like my Dougs.

The Flowtechs drivers side I had hit everything in their path at stock ride height. I warned the guy i sold them too that was putting them on his kids Duster to be careful. About a month later they took them off. I think for Autocross it's Dougs or TTI. The under the steering link headers are great for show cars and drag racers if they will clear your trailer.

Plan "B" is make your own.

I hear you. $950 US for the coated headers is pretty steep to begin with, but they sure are pretty!

The cheap Summit headers will not hit an effin thing as long as your car sits at the stock ride height. I have run several pairs.

I'm with RRR on this. Summit headers and MP 383 A body torsion bars and drive anywhere without hitting. Use the money saved and buy yourself a good set of torsion bars. You will love the way the car handles.

you need to remove the heat shield is all. even then, the stock starter is easyer to R&R than the mini :wack:

exactly, would love that quality of pics with them installed in an A-body

That's a trick SBM in the tri-Y pic. It's got an oil filter on both sides...

What's the story with the tri-y extractors I've seen for sale on Australian websites/ebay? Do they on fit rh drive models? designwise, they look good. the black finish can be dealt with.

To humor you, if I have a minute tomorrow I'll grab a pic or two.

It won't matter. He'll say you got it sittin like a 4WD then. I've had three of them and used the same headers and never hit a thing with them.

I had installed a year ago TTi header in my 72.Dart.
The fitted perfectly.
Before Hooker were installed.
Since you had to be careful where you go.

Autozone has a sale going on right and the code works on Doug's headers.
