Hey guys I thought I'd introduce myself and say hello now that I've stepped into this world finally. My name is Richard and I'm a 28 year old US Navy Sailor, stationed in Great Lakes, IL. I've been active duty for 8 years now and have finally had the time/money/brains to purchase my 1st classic car. Having grown up in the garage with my father and him constantly wrenching on classic Chevrolet's I've always had a classic car itch that needed scratching. However I didn't end up with a Chevy, instead I decided to go a different path and found this beautiful 1975 Dodge Dart Swinger. Garage kept every winter its entire life and came with a ton of paperwork back to the original sticker and every owner since it was originally purchased in December of 1975.

Here is a few pictures of when I first went to go see her.

Once the weather got cleared up and we dotted the I's and crossed the T's, she came home today.

Looking forward to all the things to come and keeping this car as clean or cleaner and well kept as it is today.

Welcome and wow! Nice looking Dart. You got the brains part of your statement correct. Starting off with a beauty like that means you can drive it instead of build it! Don't get me wrong, building is great, but driving is what it's all about. Congratulations.

Sweet looking car Richard Welcome to the World of MOPAR

Jim

thank you for your service and welcome aboard! yes its great to rstore, but like he said, driving is what its all about!!!!!! enjoy that nice car!!

No Problem guys glad to do it. I'm finding out more and more about these things every day and luckily I have an old friend from a the ship with a 66 Belvidere leading me down the right path. Just found out about Mopar NATS in Ohio that I plan on going to in August, as well as Automotion in Wisconsin Dells in May. Still trying to pick through the fender tag and figure out everything that originally came on the car.

Congrats on your new purchase....my favorite color combo...red,black and chrome. Looks really clean!. I was at Great Lakes in 1974-75 for FTG radar school...it was one cold winter. I had a 70 Sport Satellite at that time....wow over 40 years ago.
Thanks for your service.

Actually they told me about that show too Bigus. Right now depending on a family trip to NC in late July early August getting in the way I will be trying to make that show as well.

Thanks a lot guys. Well the current plans are to drive it and enjoy it. Hopefully getting a little interest sparked with my 7 year old boy too. Only going to be making minor changes while I do some research and make plans for later on down the road. Going to be doing some cleaning up in the engine bay that's for sure. The blue is rubbing me wrong all kinds of ways considering how clean the rest of the car is.

nice car, very cool. I did some time at Great Lakes. (GSM A school) that was a long time ago.
If you haven't yet, you should check out Volo Auto Museum. Also, there's a town north of you Waukegan (?) that used to put on some good car shows. Like letting people do massive burnouts and stuff, that's likely changed though.

Also Great lakes Dragway is a good time.

How do you tune the radio frequencies on these things? Ive been playing with all the knobs and everything and cant get it to move around. Also another question, what do you guys think would be the best bet to get the front end down just a little bit to make it at least level from the front and back? 2" spindles is what I keep seeing pop up.

you can lower it some by adjusting the torsion bar suspension. But then you have to get it re-aligned. They may of put heavier duty Tbars in there. You can do some research on adjusting tbars.

Welcome to FABO!!! You have a VERY nice looking car there. It's cool you also got all the paperwork. You'll enjoy being part of the MOPAR family!!

I would post your question on the radio in the electrical and ignition forum. Members who are knowledgeable about stuff will check out the different forums to help folks out.

Thanks for your service!!!!

Young Dart,
Hello and welcome, nice ride! I went to Great Lakes to watch my son graduate a couple of Decembers ago...BRRR!! Thanks for your service!!! CPO Retired.

Got some new key blanks in tonight and got them cut to match, so I finally have more then one pair of keys for it not. Got some cleaning gear to take care of some of my cleanliness issues under the hood as well. I just reserved my room for Automotion in Wisconsin Dells May 15-16 this year if anyone is going to that ill see you there.

Figured id share a few more pictures. Had to have a baseline for the engine before the cleanup starts.

Got a little close up picture of the Mach 500 wheels too.

Got a lot of maintenance goodies the last few days so I could do a nice tune up and even a dress up piece or two. Trying to decide on gear oil in the rear end and what Dexron Fluid for the trans right now to round up the maintenance side of things. Suggestions are appreciated. Also got some cleanup gear in order to get her ready for the road/show season.

Obviously its a weekend/cruiser car and not a racer. Don't want to start driving her around this summer not knowing when the last tune-up was done. Id rather have that extra piece of mind by doing the maintenance myself then relying on anyone prior. Even though everything else on the car looks great. I'm only the 4th owner of the car in 40 years, and came with a binder of paperwork going back to 1975. Also the Purolator air filter means the stock air cleaner will be cleaned up and reinstalled.

Well I ditched the chrome valve cover in favor or staying with the original theme rather then paint it however I want. Today the tear down and cleanup began this weekend. Baby steps.

Got some of the Mopar turquoise paint color from Summit, and after cleanup I got to work.

Stock air cleaner ill be going back on and new grommets and air breather.

Did you know that they also painted slantsix Red...:) That might look pretty good in your red bay.
