Want to restore the aluminum trim on top of fenders and door on 66 Dart. How hard is it to remove without chipping or destroying the paint job on the fender and door?? Is there a trick or special tool or way to remove with out causing damage? Not sure what the clips are like under the trim. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Subscribed! I have never removed any trim from mine (yet) but I believe the fender top clips are attached with a nut from the wheelhouse area. You might have to scrape some undercoat and spray with penetrating oil. Hopefully someone will chime in with some tips. tmm

there are/is different types of trim on the 66. If it's a GT with the top trim then it's relatively easy. you first remove (last clip by the front door)the nut that's under the trim by going inside the door/fender opening. then you have to remove the front fin by going under the fender and taking off the 2 nuts holding it on.(splash shield might be in the way but it's easy to remove ) After that you can use a plastic removal tool to pry up the center trim that has push in clips (make sure to remove the first nut as mentioned by the door, the rest of that piece is clips.)
on a 2 270 it's different since they are on the side of the fender and have both nuts and clips holding them on. splash guard in front might have to be removed (it's been a while since I did a 270 trim level) check for nuts on the trim and then after they have been removed it's just clips using a plastic tool. it will bend easily so be careful.
have not done the base model in 20 years so I can't help on that trim.

here is the gt stuff

this is the door trim and it has nuts on either end to hold it in position
Can't seem to find the fender trim picture but it's really close to the door one, but with only one stud and nut combo.

Thanks!! Pictures were a real plus.

if your going to do it yourself, then remember to get a lye solution or lye solution based cleaner (like original yellow top "easy off oven cleaner) to remove the anodizing from the aluminum trim before sanding on it and polishing it up. Member "Waggin" on here did a nice write-up on how to stainless also most of that can be transffered to the aluminum trim, just remember aluminum is super thin and it's easy to over do it. I did mine and it took a bumch of hours but did come out nice.
here is my headlight bezels. I think they came out nice
