I just had this experience looking for a Super Six setup. The members name is Hawkoo. He wanted a reply through email only. He said his PayPal was "dormant". He wanted me to go to Walmart and send him a money gram. Tons of red flags in his replys. Pictures of intake and carb looked totally legit. Also I checked his membership and he just made it the day I put the want add in. So beware of Hawkoo.

I just had this exact thing happen to me a few days ago from a brand new member saying he had the trim pieces I needed which I posted a want ad for and insisted to talk using email and he wanted me to immediately go to a Walmart and money gram him the money. He "had trouble loading pictures of his trim pieces" and his paypal was "dormant" (whatever that is supposed to mean?) His name on here is " b00mb0x " with no posts or feedback. Of course I did not send any money. Sounded very fishy to me and I told him so. Never got a reply back.

Harry, the same thing happened to me. And I switched banks because of it too. You'd think that the banks would go way out of their way to inform a person when they start adding fees to an account that was supposed to be free.

The bank I had this problem with was Amegy Bank. If you don't mind my asking...... Which bank have you found after having a similar problem? I must find a good bank to move our other accounts to.

To tell you the truth...... I would just as soon sew my money into my mattress. But we still sleep on our 1970s waterbed. So that wouldn't work out so well.

Best regards,

Harry

I did not read every reply here but.... is there a way that whenever someone posts an ad in the "wanted" section that they could receive an automated reply which outlines the things to look out for?

Just a thought, sorry if it has already been mentioned or addressed.

I just HATE to see good people being scammed, and the effects it has on great forums like this one!

I was banking with U.S. Bank and after they started adding fees I switched to Union Bank & Trust here in Nebraska. They're not as big and there's less access to debit machines, but they're great for providing a no fee checking account.

Thanks, 1967 'cuda! That's pretty much what I had in mind as well. Will look at smaller local banks here in Texas. For this account, debit machine access is not important.

Best regards,

Harry

Hey,
Watch this guy WonderWoody has signed back in a few days ago, he'll PM you with something your looking for and then keep you money.

After I let him scam me on some bumper guards, I found out the hard way because I wanted these parts so bad, I ignored the signs of a scam.

I have his address and phone number if anybody in Dayton Ohio would like to pick up my bumper guards that I've already paid for.

I find Paypal to be the safest route, though I know it is not for everyone.

Something I figured out regarding Paypal options, is you do not have to give them your bank account information, to access your funds. This by requesting a physical check sent to you via ground mail, it has a fee of $1.50 regardless of the amount withdrawn, don't know if that has changed.

I was there latest VICTIM they con'd me out of $175.00 US Dollars the scumbags name he used was Jim Ramirez Garcia and also his wifes name Patricia Ramirez they are frauds and will steal you're money Beware !
They asked for payment by Moneygram wouldn't take Paypal

Sadly out of all the forums I am on and parts I have bought. I have got screwed the most here. I am very careful now of buying anything. I got sent a set of "72 Duster" buckets that he said were recovered so didn't have the right pattern. I just wanted the frames and cushions. When I got them the darn things were for some other Mopar car. They look similar but bigger. Likely a C Body. Worst part was guy cried to me he screwed up on shipping so I split the difference with him. Also bought a few other parts that were painted to look good. One guy stiffed me for 150.00 as well.

I just got a response to my wanted add from a week ago. The person that responded joined the same day he responed to me. I received a PM from jim3 requesting I contact him via email. I had read the alert here earlier and decided I would play along.mmi was looking for a set of 68 big block A body exhaust manifolds.
Jim3 emailed me and told me he had them and he sent me pictures of non A body exhaust manifolds and told me he does not accept pay pal and only accepts money gram from Wal Mart. Currently I am still playing along and I asked him for his contact info........stay tuned

X 3!!! Have bought and sold parts on this and on other forums and have bought parts on e-Bay as well over many years. I only accept or pay with US Postal Money Order and with one exception (bad experience with someone I trusted on this very forum where I shipped the parts before receiving payment, won't do that again)...... No problems.

And FWIW...... I never contact anyone regarding ads they may post looking for parts...... Only advertise what I have for sale. And I avoid Craig's List like the plague, as I have read of the many problems folks have had there (scammers, car jackings, armed robberies, assaults, murders, etc. when meeting with potential 'buyers').

Best regards,

Harry

Recently bought for some brackets from a seller on FABO using a MO. In making the decision, I saw that the seller had been on FABO for a few years and made numerous postings. I read a few to gauge the sort of individual with whom I was dealing (thank you, search function). Also, the $ amount was small so my loss, if any, wouldn't be a huge hit. Happily, everything went as hoped. Not everyone is a bottom-feeding scum sucker, but one must use caution.

Jim Earl was the name of the guys that responed to me...he said he was eco earring from spinal surgery and send the money to his wife Sara earl. Looks like his info has been removed from this site!!! Also, he just emailed me for the third time trying to get me to send the money ASAP so his wife can ship the parts

I've done many buys & sells here on FABO with no problems yet! Thanks FABO for all the help and taking good care of us. AL

Keep stringing him along. Tell him that you are now in the hospital or something... Or tell him the money is in the mail (snail mail with no tracking) and should be there tomorrow.... He'll keep checking his mail every day looking for it.... #-o

Just got a PM. From a new member for a part I was looking for. I was to only contact by e-mail. If staff member wants details let me know. Thanks for the heads up before this

Folks, we can't say this enough. IF you get a PM from a new member, usually with no posts and he wants to continue the transaction via Email (HUGE RED FLAG), PLEASE PM the Administrator or one of the Moderators immediately, with the persons username and a short explanation of what's going on.
