Hey guys. If this isn't the right place to post this I am sorry. Anyways just had a quick question about superchargers. If you have a supercharger and it has a blower surge from bad tuning is that bad or rough on the engine? I was told its from bad tuning and it makes the carb go rich/lean/rich/lean. Is that true?

Not to act dumb or anything, but why do people do it to there cars then? It makes no sense to make your car run like that on purpose.

I think some applications you hear it on such as all out race stuff and pulling trucks and the like, that it cannot be tuned out. On most carbureted engines, it can and should be. I guess people think it sounds cool. It's a pain in the *** on everything. Not just the engine, but can you imagine what it does to a torque converter?

Sorry to keep asking questions. Last one for now.... Can a blower surge happen with a procharger? Or just a roots style that sits on top of the intake manifold?

I am sure it can happen. But at those lower boost levels like the smaller ones produce, it's much easier to control.

I think it has something to do with the delay of air fuel mixture flowing over the screws in a roots type added to the extra duration on a blower type cam. I've never known of a centrifugal blower surging like what you're talking about.since the air is forcing the fuel in front rather than sucking it through

I was thinkin the procharger was the smaller roots type. Sorry bout that.

EFI.....purdy sure that will stop the blower surge. Have been told that part of the reason a roots blower will surge is due to the fact that some of the mixture is used to "lube" the teflon strip on the rotors resulting in a somewhat uneven fuel flow at lower engine speeds...guy that told me ran a roots blower for years....but he very well may have been blowing smoke...no pun intended...

I would agree, but I don't know a lot about superchargers. EFI you can have better and more reliable tuning with. Also put fuel right behind the valves instead of going through the blower and intake.
