So been awhile since i posted in this section, so those of you having your transplants done what did u settle for on total timing? ?? I've done some reading and doesn't seem they need as much as first thought what did u guys find out?? Thanks steve

What are you doing with it?

Carb vs. fuel injection seems to have a pretty big effect on what the motors will tolerate and like for timing. I know I pushed it once on a carb just to see if it would make a difference because I was out of other ideas and it didn't blow up or run any worse. Others have reported good dyno results with high timing on a carb, but the root cause seems to be poor fueling and the timing is more just a bandaid. Most fuel injection builds I see don't tend to top 24 degrees if that for max output and wide open.

The caveat to this is that timing can go as high as 40 degrees under cruise conditions, but I'm guessing that's not really what you're asking. At cruise with a lean mixture it needs the extra timing to get things all burnt, but that's a whole different ballgame for tuning.

I'm with Map63, timing is all in about 24* under load. I'm still working on cruise timing and fuel...

I ran 25 all in with the Modman....I dynoed it up to 28 all in and it made 1rwhp more

But due to rubbish cylinder pressure..I was able to run 21 initial! - so my experiences are not par for the course.

With the Eddy dual quad Ill be starting at 15 initial to 23 total - and listening very very carefully!.

This is not including MAP advance at cruise

15 initial 20 total. Good to hear from you Swifter!! You're looking good!!

I think even race gas engines are in the 22-24* range. Im do what HJ did for starters 15 initial 20 total for a safe starting point. Im gonna be the guy with 11.1 static on 91 octane.

My motor-392 calies kit,big valved cnc 5.7 heads-950 carb with xv intake-had 518hp to rear wheels on dyno mated to a ceramic disc Mcleod clutch and ol' iron 833 trans, car has run 11.0 1/4 and got kicked off the track,We have 32 total right now and was thinking of dropping a little cause i've been reading they don't need so much and when they dynoed it they didnt play much with the timing which sucked but it is what it is--Steve
