Not an A body, but what do you think of my buddy's creativity?

A couple good friends of mine have a restoration shop. They saved a 63 newport from a junk yard, and being a less desirable 4 door car they decided to get creative with it. I think the car looks pretty awesome. They've gone through everything from the interior to the engine. I like the look of the clear coated patina. I know the car won't appeal to everyone, but I think they've taken a car that most people would overlook, to a sweet head turner, and a conversation piece for most cruise ins. I'll post some before and after pics.

Nothing against your buddy but the clear coat over patina is WAY over done in my opinion. Plus a lot of guys use it to avoid body work

That thing is awesome! Its cool to see somebody do something a little different.

Not sure how 'creative' it is to clear over a turd paint job, but to each his own. I'd have rocked satin, it ain't my bit*h.

I personally love that car, And i'd drive the "wee" out of it just like it is!. If I was to change anything, it would be to keep the side's glossy and do a 50/50 gloss on the top side. Regardless, it's cool imo. :thumbrig:

I definitely wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers out there. The car was painted from the chrome molding down. They weren't trying to cover anything up or do less work by clearing the patina, they were just thinking outside of the box. This is the first time they've tried something like this, if it doesn't sell, they'll know not to duplicate it. You'll definitely not go to another cruise in or car show and see another one ... at least not around here.

I like it just like it is.I also would drive the wee out of it. I enjoy things outside the box. If everybody did their cars the same it would get pretty boring in a hurry. I would look at this at a car show before I would look at a 10 point restoration.

If nothing else, the clear coat will help to preserve it a little longer. So for that reason alone, I like it! Any time someone takes interest in keeping an old car alive a while longer is a good thing!

Looks Great, and will always be a topic of discussion where ever it goes. The world's a changing place, get with the program.

I just look at these old cars as works of art. If you have the ability to put your vision onto the blank canvas its amazing what some people can come up with.

Well said my friend. I love it. I'd rock the hell out of it. It took many years for mother nature to make that paint look matured. Why not preserve it. Many thumbs up to your buddy.

I love those '63's. The taillights are so cool. And the squarish steering wheel. The wheels look good. I'd prefer even an "economy" repaint but the important thing is they saved it from the junkyard.

That's neato. If h decdes he wants to change it up, he can always spray it with some dull coat. That will take the shine off but still leave a protective coat.

The idea is to be different and that's just what they did. I love it and they can enjoy it and not worry about some a$$ scratching it. Drive the hell out of it and go. :)

i like the distressed look but shinny surface rust doesn't look right. looks like a fun car though.

I love the fact the car is still on the road and not sitting in a field or in a garage rotting away until someone gets around to it.
I would like to see more pic myself.
Those body lines are cool as hell to me. I'd love to have one of those cars. Last year at Nats it seemed to me that the "C" body's were getting a lot of attention. I got a ton of requests for keys for them. I'll have more this year than I usually do.

I love the car, if every one passes up the more doors for two doors, the more doors will completely disappear. If that happens we loose a piece of automobile history. I would have repainted it though.

In our area I have the only 66 Valiant on the road. There are lots of 68-69 Camaro's but no 66 Valiants. Its cool to have something different.

That could be a beautiful car if it was properly restored, or at least had a proper repaint. Sorry, I just don't get the whole rat/patina deal.

The car has a 361 big block, It had a bent push rod when they bought it. But they have it running really well now. The car drives great going down the road, I was really impressed. They're in the process of finishing the interior now, I think I have a few pics.
