I have purchased several parts where the seller asks that i pay via friends and family to avoid the 3%. I think in doing that, you lose any Paypal protection if things go bad. Ive recently decided to request and pay the 3% if the seller brings that up.

I usually do the family deal, IF I know the person on here I'm buying from. If not, I'll pay the extra.

I have sold a couple things and I clearly stated in the ad that they cover the fee, and of course they didn't. So I lost a couple of bucks, no big deal I guess.
