Looking for best avenue to replace the leaf springs on my 70 duster. It is a 340 car with the correct springs.Would like to replace with the same kind.Anyone have any suggestions on where to purchase and best bang for your buck

I used to work in a spring shop. If you go online and search 78-705, you'll find lots of different suppliers for the stock replacement springs. 78-705 is the Spring Research Institute 'part number' for that particular leaf spring. The "SRI" is kinda the governing body over all leaf spring manufacturers. Each spring for every car/truck/heavy truck has an SRI number. 78-705 should fix you right up. You'll find a bunch of folks that sell them. Check and see if they're a member of the SRI and you'll get a quality piece... probably a LOT less expensive than your popular retailers are selling them for. Most likely, the retailers are buying them from Dayton, Triangle Spring, or one of many other. Good luck hunting !

Take them to your local spring shop and have them rebuild them to stock specs. They can re-arch them as well. They added a 6th leaf and rearched them. Very pleased w/their work and costs less than new ones.

Use the link that Lelo put up, find the spring you're looking for, click on the link and you'll find the SRI number. You can then buy from General Spring, or search that SRI number and find lots of suppliers. Maybe one near you to help save freight costs on your little 60 pound bundle of joy.

Mine just arrived from Mancini yesterday. I also got the offset shackle kit as well.

Just an FYI with that kit you can fit (absolute max) a 10.4" section width. The best tire I've found is the 10.50x26 MT sportsman pro. Hint, you can run them tubeless as well.

Do you have a spring shop name or # for one in PA to get them re-arched? I have a friend who is looking to get his done for a 70 RR and spring shops in Harrisburg and Williamsport told him $300-$400 for the pair and then even at that price still acted like they did not want to do it.

i just ordered a set of 6 leaf original ride height springs from Laura at ESPO about an hour ago. Can't wait to get them installed.

If the spring shop doesn't have a furnace go somewhere else. Many shops simply put the spring under a large press and rebend them "cold" to get the proper arch but this method doesn't last. The springs are made of spring steel and in order to get them to re-set at the correct arch they must be heated and arched into the correct configuration.

Here ya go. Great guy to deal with and fast turnaround. I had mine done 10 years ago and still has the same stance.

I talked to ESPO about a month ago, and the 6 spring set for my Barracuda was going to be about $320 shipped to Oregon.

Not in the budget at this very moment in time, so I just took them apart and ran them through a slip roll machine and got about 2 1/2" of arch put back into them. Was relatively easy, but muscle intensive being a hand crank type.
