I been looking around the forum to try to get the answer But im not having any luck. I am planning on buying a aluminum radiator for my 75 duster with mildly built 340. I am also using a BeCool puller electric fan. Not that I'm trying to skimp on parts but I can't really see paying the $750 for a direct fit unit. The guy at my local speed shop says he can get me a nice BeCool universal unit for half the price and tig weld the tabs on the radiator for me. I tend to overthink things so here is my question! Is there any advantages/disadvantages with replacing a downflow radiator with a Crossflow one? Also would welding directly to the radiator be a good idea? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My vote is for the cross flow , I have heard and seen that they cool a lot better..

Who makes a cross flow that fits good and sells at a decent price?? I have a '69 Barracuda and live in a very hot and humid climate (11 months out of the year).

I have a Summit cross flow aluminum radiator in my Dart and it does a good job of keeping my 318 cool. It was under $200 too. As far as tig welding tabs... I didn't. I fabbed up a frame and just mounted it on the inside of the radiator and it works very well. If the guy can tig weld well then he could probably add some tabs. I also have an electric puller fan and have about 1/2" of clearance between the fan and the water pump pulley. If you do get the universal radiator Id double check clearance between the fan and the water pump.

Running a Summit cross flow too - partially for space reasons. TIG welded tabs and bolted to the core support. Relatively cheap and works really well. I capped it with a piece of aluminum to make it looker nicer.
