Just broke in 410 stroker.i got back from my third short ride today and told my fiance i may have bit off more than I can chew! When i kick in that second four barrel (HOLLY CRAP!) SIDEWAYS !! I'm just about nervous to take it to the track. The car is now just plain violent. Has anyone else built a motor that surprised ya a little ?

Traction, must have traction. 2nd 4brl? like one wasn't enough?

I'm hoping for the same reaction in a month or so. Congrats!

Still playing with my 442 ci small block. First time I took it out I came back shakin like a dog shittin a peach seed.

When I was 18 I went from a worn out slant six to a little 350 hp small block. I'll never forget the first time it got loose when I floored it at 40 mph in the rain.

First time out for me with the 417 was more exhilerating than scary. The rear floats back and forth to around 60 or 70 mph on the streets depending on the road surface but it never really gets sideways or scary. The only thing that's scary is the huge evil grin on my face ! Could some drag radials maybe to help out with the going sideways issue? Could possibly help the car go forward more than kicking rear out.

When I first drove my 500 stroker, it scared the sh.. out of me. The problem is, after a while you get used to it and want more power. I think it's actually one of the laws of nature. It still puts a grin on my face every time I drive it though.

Several. The lastes 496 is more beastly than i thought it would be (as does the owner of it). The very first 416 I built wasn't scary as much as much stronger feeling than I thought it would be. I've raced nitoused bigg blocks, I did not expect what that small block could do.

Now you know why I say that's the best street package going.

Does the back end swing out to the same side each time? If so you may need to adjust the preload in the rear suspension via the torsion bars.

That's what I'm talking about! The other night I almost worked my self up into a panic thinking about what I beast I've been building.

Sounds great, would like to know what type of carb linkage you are using on your 2x4 setup, and what size carbs are they?
Thanks Rod

Any video yet?
weather permitting the following Sunday the 22nd I'll be taking it to Woodburn dragstrip and be trying to get videos. possibly in the middle of the week the weather should be okay. then I need to take it to some open parking lot or something, neighbors are being tolerant but a "watch this video" probably won't be good!

i have it set up with progressive linkage. It has a Carter Proformance 600 on the back (primary). The front carb is a edelbrock 600- 1406. It's got a slid loop a little closer to the fulcrum point. It allows me to run the primary carb for about a 1/3 throttle, but after that "say hello to my little friend!" The second carburetor opens up faster, and cattches up to the front. For me it gives better street manners.View attachment 20150305_133838.jpg

That's why you built it right? A friend built a 496 stroker for his Road Runner. "you better roll into the throttle because if you just mat it from the start it will go sideways for 2 blocks" is how he described it. Sounds like fun to me.

Sure sounds like you dun good with that build! :D

I was never fortunate enough to build/drive a long arm SB in my day, they were only for the rich & famous back then...lol. I know lots of "street" cars these days are capable of some incredible performance, but back then, anything that could run 11's was "seriously" fast, and I still believe that even now.

Only two cars I ever drove caught me off guard.....One L88 427 Camaro, and surprisingly, a well built 455 GTO. Both would have been easy 11.0 cars with a decent suspension & bite, and both were very scary street cars, even on sticky tires.

Get used to you beast and enjoy it. And overall, BE SAFE & HAVE FUN. :thumbrig:

Sounds like you're getting your moneys worth. Just make sure you save some money for new underwear!

The L88 doesn't surprise me at all, a well built 455 Poncho is a nice surprise. As to the o.p.: Yes, stroked small blocks are fun.

As i was tinkering today and I noticed that the throttle cable was loose? I was only getting 3/4 throttle!! Lol
