I just got a real nice 1968 Dart 270. I want to swap the slant 6 for a 318. I'd love to find a 1968 Dart V8 donor car for a grand or two. What other model year A-Bodies would make good donor cars for an easier swap? This is my first project and I can't wait to get started! Thanks.

I would shoot for a later model, mid seventies, they are a lot cheaper and come with disc brakes

Why not look for a 5.2 or 5.9 Magnum engine? You can get them pretty cheap if you keep an eye out. Check the Magnum swap section. You can go EFI or carb. I think Schumacher (sp?) makes conversion motor mounts.

For swapping ease, recommend any 68-72 small block car. All of the components exchange freely.

The 62-66 K-frame will not work.

The 73-76 K-frame interchanges easily, however there are some things to watch out for. These K-frame use the round engine isolators requiring different motor mounts. If you decide to use the steering box from these years, you will either need to swap the pitman arm on the steering box for a older B-body or swap out the idler arm and cross link. The front anti-roll bar from these years will not fit the earlier cars. These cars use the same upper ball joint as the B & E bodies. This means the upper control arms will not bolt up to the earlier car's spindle.

welcome and sweet car i love the 67-69 body esp in the trunk/tail panel area. I have a 70 but got all my parts from a 74. check out my build thread ( link below) it was a ton of work but well worth it.

good luck and keep us posted
