Last fall I was closing my hood and heard a very loud BANG as if a gun went off ....... the back of the hood on drivers side next to the cowl will not go down flush. Up about one inch. I took the inner fender out and of course I can see down through the fender and through the door to see...... I have had a light inside there right up next to the hinge and spring ....I see nothing wrong. No break in spring ...nothing off .... hood stays up when I open it. Everyone keeps saying its the spring, that would make sense with the loud BANG but I see nothing wrong ..its not unwound anywhere...it looks just like the passenger side.

I guess my questions are.. Would the spring keep the hood from shutting flush with the cowl? Anybody had any issues like this ...... And..Am I going to HAVE to take the fender off to remove the hinge? The hinge does rub the side of the fender as it shuts but nothing really bad.

This happened to the passenger side hinge on my Demon too....No loud noise or bang though, but the corner near the cowl was sticking up just like you're describing. Changing the hinge fixed it :D

You can do it with just the inner fender off. The biggest pain is getting the retaining clip/star washer back on. Just be patient LOL

Thanks C .....wondering how to get those washer clips back on was a big concern I had ...if it was possible or not. Do you think its the hinge or spring. ......or did you replace both? I have a friend that has the spring but ill have to find a hinge.

Hi John, Mine was replaced as an assembly (the complete hinge). It's been a couple of years, but if I remember correctly, we were able to remove the star washer without breaking it and then used vise grips holding a socket and a small hammer to tap the washer back on. There's not a lot of room to work in there as you can see...

I've also read threads here on FABO where some people have just used a hose clamp to hold the hinge on.

Hope this helps :)
