Crawled underneath the car yesterday for a random inspection just because, and saw what appears to be fuel leaking from the tank. Might be hard to see in the pic, but it looks like it was leaking from where the tube connects into the tank then trickled down making the rest of it wet.

As far as gas tanks go, looks pretty straight forward to remove but thought I'd ask here for advice first.

Probably the seal where the filler tube goes in. I would get one and drop the tank, pretty straight forward procedure.

It's possible there is a hole in the top allowing it to slosh out, but you won't know until you drop it.

Just remember sparks + fumes = boom.

Use caution while doing it.

Might just be loose on the filler neck or may be the seal or could even be the filler neck it's self. By the looks of it I don't really think it's the tank it's self Altho I could be.

Looks like a rotten tube to tank seal to me, and it's a lot easier to get to from the top inside the trunk.
Just pull the boot and it'll get real obvious.
The seal is easy to replace (just pull the fill tube out and pop a new seal in and put the tube back in.)
A little vaseline or grease helps to get the neck back in.

Orrrrr if you just need something to do go ahead and pull the whole tank without checking the seal.

^^^^^This.
Then if it still leaks you know what you need to do.

Thanks guys. I'm fortunate enough to have a jegs across the street for parts.

When I bought my car the owner boasted that it had a new gas tank installed. He didn't mention that they omitted the $10 rubber grommet. The old one was reinstalled and wrapped in duct tape and leaked like a sieve when the tank was filled.

I wish it was only $10, cost me $25!

New grommet installed. Removing the old, cracked and split one was easy.... Installing the filler tube through the new one was a PITA! I just used a little motor oil to lube it up but was still harder than heck getting that back in there.

No, just pulled out the filler tube and shoved in the new grommet.
