OFFICIAL!!! 2015 "Mopars At The Strip", March 27-29

I made it there for the last year for the 1st time. Great show!! some comments: go to Carlisle if you're into parts & show cars - you'll be overwhelmed. I've been going to Carlisle since the beginning, and nothing comes close ( but i live only 3 hrs away). with that said -- MATS is absolutely a fantastic show!! kinda like the NATS at Columbus, but much more friendly. Love seeing the West coast cars!! I am coming again this year -- Wouldn't miss it!!
71340 Duster guy - i made my travel arrangements through one of the big online sites ( starts with an O ____Z), flight, hotel & car for just a tick over $700 ea. ?? not too bad i guess and that's staying a week..............take the Mrs!!

I was thinking of going to this, but thinking of taking my 16 year old kid (who is lazily helping me build the Duster). Considering that Vegas is pretty much a 21 and over venue, would taking my kid be a bad idea?

I had been to MATS couple times, once with a couple of Mopar buddys and once with the wife as spectators then the third time I went I took my car and wife and 13 and 16 year old daughters and they had a great time. They were only one day at the show with me but spent the rest of the week we were there seeing the sights in and around town and had the time of there lives, I would totally recommend you take your son. We need more young people in our hobby.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds like I shouldn't over think it and just do it!

Are you from Canada? Did you drive your car all the way down?

I was hoping to score some stuff at the swapmeet.

I'm going to look into room rates and stuff. I may want to stay in Downtown area so that I'm somewhere in between the MATS event and The Strip.

Yes I'm from the west coast of Canada and I trailered the car down, 21 hr drive one way, got to see lots of great country on the way. The wife and both kids drove down with me then the wife and one daughter flew back and me and the other daughter drove back. This time we stayed near the track but in the evening we drove down to the strip. Took in a Cirque de Soleil show, went to the M+Ms and Coca Cola exhibits on the Strip, watched the Treasure Island pirate ship battle, all geared towards kids. The Hoover Dam is a great place to go as well. I don't gamble at all so the Casinos do nothing for me. I spend so much on all my Mopars I cant afford to gamble! Go for it you will have a great time. Was going to go again this year but am going to the Spring Fling in California instead.

I'll be at the Spring Fling too. That's only a 45 minute drive from where I live. ;)

I have attended many times, almost all driving the truck hauling the race car....several times taking my kids.We always had an easy time finding stuff to entertain the younger ones at the time. There is lots to see and do. Now the kids are older, and the girls down on Fremont Street experience make them blush.LOL

Ok, I got my room booked! Just staying overnight Saturday night. I may add Friday night, but I haven't decided yet. Staying at Circus Circus since I got my teenager with me.

Joey G ... Takin the kid(s) is a great idea. I stayed last yr at Circus Circus- the place was absolutely over run with kids. But really, ok place to take the kids. There is even a McDonalds inside. And no I don't work there haha. I'm stayin over on Boulderhighway this yr. nothing against the CC place, just whatever was cheap in the package deal.
See ya there, I'll be the guy wearin the Mopar hat.........

Btw, are there any locals on this forum?? I'll be stayin for a week and need some suggestions like a couple restaurants, a decent buffet?? Fast food gets old......are there any local Mopar events/ happenings going on the same time??
Thanks in advance!!!!
Oh and please don't trash the Kia..... It's a rental haha

Not a "local" but we've been to MATS for the past 7-8 years and used to go to Las Vegas twice a year for my bowling league sweepstakes.
We've got a few favorite restaurants for both quality and decent prices if that will help:
* Our Inland Mopars Car Club always hits the Mexican restaurant at The Cannery (the MATS host hotel) one night during MATS for a group dinner. The food has always been good there - and we have a lot of fun.
* For good BBQ check out Memphis Championship BBQ. There are several locations but we prefer the one at 2250 E. Warm Springs Rd on the south end of Las Vegas, east of the airport. We think it's the nicest location and the food is always consistently good. Check out their banana pudding for dessert.
* Good food and good prices can be found at Ellis Island, a little casino on Koval Ln (east of the Strip and south of Flamingo, behind the Paris hotel). Not a fancy Strip casino, but the kind of place where the locals would go. Good food in the Cafe and they also have a micro brewery on the premises where they brew their own beer and root beer.
* For breakfast one day while you're there, take a drive out to Hoover Dam (you need to walk out on the new bridge while you're there - absolutely outstanding view down to the top of the dam, and a long way down to the river! Stop in Boulder City on your way to the dam and have breakfast at The Coffee Cup. We saw it on "Drive-Ins, Diners and Dives" several years ago. Great breakfasts. The Pork Chile Verde Omelette is outstanding.

Check out http://www.vegas.com/restaurant/specials-and-deals/ for a lot of unknown food deals in Vegas.

Oh yeah, while your at MATS stop by and say "Hi". Our group from Inland Mopars Car Club will be directing the parking of the show car field on Friday and Saturday mornings until about noon. Ask any of them to point out "Ken", then come over and say "Hi" I generally park the A-bodies but I could be anywhere.

Have fun!

Thanks OCDART!!! Info is great, and I'll try to look u up n thank u personally. Coming from Pa, n we still have 2-3 ft of snow on the ground so it will be welcome change!!

It's been years since I've been to Circus Circus, when I was married I'd take my two step daughters and young son (at the time). I'm happily divorced now, so now it's just my 16 year old son and I.

The two reasons why I picked Circus Circus was because 1) it was the cheapest place near the strip, and 2) no one will give me any "looks" for having a teenager around.

The last time I was in Vegas (2013) I stayed at the Vdara with my girlfriend. Really comfortable suites and the price at the time was outstanding. I think I only spent like 160 to 170 bucks a night. That's WITH the resort fee AND taxes.

You can also stop by those "Tickets for Tonight" places for vouchers on dinner. You can save a buck or two. There's this decent Brazilian place inside the mall at Planet Hollywood I like to go. If you like beef, beef, and more beef with a bit a chicken and pork then it's the place to go.

The Rio Buffet is kinda hit and miss. I enjoyed the Paris Buffet one time (that was 5 years ago). They had bottomless mimosas. I got pretty tore up on mimosas. LOL

Here's our latest press release. Been a little busy lately so I haven't had much time to "relax" on the internet.

I'll be there for the first time. I've been to Mopar Nats several times, really looking forward to this. I just retired, and we are RVing. Hey, all of us FABO folks should wear something to identify us, and if we see a FABO emblem, Introduce yourself!!!

Changed my mind,,,heading down to the MATS. If you see my Demon in the fun field stop by and say hi :)

When are you leaving? Oh ya we booked in at the Orleans. Gotta stay some place different each time for a change. Christmas time we tried out the Hard Rock. Cool place if you are into that stuff!

Also checked out the cars at the Linx (Imperial Palace)

I'm starting my journey tomorrow. The folks winter down in Lake Havasu, Arizona, about 2.5hrs from Vegas. Going to go visit them for a few days first.

For all of you going to MATS: If you're around the car show area either Friday or Saturday mornings ask one of the people directing the parking to point our Ken (I'll probably be in the A-body area), then come on over and say "Hi".
After noon both days I'll either be taking pics, watching the drags, or I may be in our Inland Mopars Car Club spot in the Manufacturers area. Again, stop on by and say "Hi".

Safe trip. Hope to bump into you at the Show. We are planning to off load at Vegas and make the road trip over to Gilbert and back to Vegas on Thursday before the show.

We are going to cruise out to the dam Thursday and try to join in with the AZ cruise on our way back in. At least that's the plan someone told me. Who's knows if same plan by next Thursday. . I need a 100 octane, so my 20 gallon cell limits my traveling distance. Maybe I'll fill a couple jerry cans and bring them along.

Say hi if you see my car, cheers.

Rodzilla, There's a car show & luncheon hosted by the Dodge dealership in Kingman for the Arizona cruisers on Thursday afternoon...It's a worthwhile drive for you IMO if you want to catch up with a few Phoenicians :)

You could continue on the cruise with the group from there
