Wonder what the lead time is?

The thought of a Hellcat dart hmmmm,wonder if my 401k could take it.I guess I could put off retirement till 70.Oh well both would be pipe dreams for me.I tell my kids I'm planning for my expirement.

from scratch. 2009. ~780hp/tq. about the same price. took about 8 months.

If you had a Hellcat Dart, odds go up significantly that the odds of making it to retirement go down significantly.

But you gotta admit, that 6.2 was designed to be daily driver in 100* heat and warranty friendly. Not to say the average joe can't build that, but someone else has already done thousands of hours of R&D and testing to be sure...
 
That 401 k money wont be there anyway. Go for the engine!

I totally agree. If I was building something that hasn't been done much, I would definitely consider a crate like the 6.2. The amount of engineering to make it last is huge. You get a ton of built in protection in areas Joe average wouldn't even know to look at. Proper coolant flow for 700 hp? A 50 percent strength margin for warranty? Pistons that will survive a standing mile run cause YOU KNOW somebody will try it, and the factory had to anyway for testing.
Gaskets that will live? Lots to think about. Of course you can also spend $20,000 plus and build your own ( me, 528 BB race motor), then repair what ever goes wrong. BTDT. Even supposed absolute best valve train parts gave me fits, till I figured out how to make em live. Then the factory rep says, ya, we changed to something like that!!!
But in the end, if you go with a crate and factory electronics, it ought to be bullet proof and maintenance free for the most part, provided your fuel supply and cooling are built right
I wouldn't fault a guy for going either way though. The build your own route is a lot of knowledge to gain, if you stick it out. The crate, peace of mind. Owners choice!
 
Now we wait and see who's going to do the swap first...

But I agree, cheaper than what I expected.
