Thinking about Electric cut outs

-
Yea I'm the Tool, that makes alot of sense man, every thread I've read lately has him bashing someone and giving his ridiculous opinions, that's why someone else said RRR strikes again. It's not helpful in any way shape or form, you ain't any better with the name calling. I've been helping guys on these forums for years, can't stand the keyboard Cowboys that pop up on every thread to put people down for the project they're working on.

Yeah, I get it, he's grumpy.

But once you get through the rough outside, he'll bend over backwards to help you. Like I said, look at his thanks count...

When I drove down to Atlanta from Chicago to tow a car back, he drove 45 minutes just to help me load the car. If it wasn't for his help, it would have been much harder, and taken much longer.

I've seen him make many personal sacrifices for others without consideration for himself.

You all act like you've never dealt with a grumpy old man before... He's a grumpy old man, just a bit younger.... (Think of it like early attitude retirement...)

PS. Don't take the tool icon to heart, I didn't have a better one to put in there without opening the big window... (I didn't want to use the "stupid" sign icon...)

I have Dougs 2 1/2" electric cutouts on my dart

They are right behind the collectors with X pipe behind them

My wife loves them, they are open when we go into car show or cruise in

If I were building the exhaust again would run 3" back to the mufflers

When I was still in school a guy put some manual cutouts on his car and they leaked. But had butterfly flapper and cables run inside the car.

I didn't want leakers, Dougs use to be a knife blade type (what I have) they didn't leak, until a motor went out and I replaced the motor now that one leaks. I need to take it apart and try and tighten it back up

Was at a cruise in and a guy fired up his mustang and revved it up thinking it sounded cool, till I started the Dart, revved it up and he said YOU WIN, .......LOL

Using the 'stupid' emoticon wouldn't have been very 'intelligent' :)
I get your point, some people are different on the Internet than they are in person.

I'm getting Cutouts for all the Harleys and diesel trucks in my area that seem to be having a contest to see how loud they can be, and for the occasional blast down a wide open road with nobody around.

I think that there are times when you might enjoy them but I would NEVER put them
on a car that didn't have a very serious camshaft.

Open cutouts on a vehicle with a "normal 484 grind" hydraulic stick (example) sound
like SH$T and I would be embarrassed to be the one producing the wanabe droan.

JMHO

What kind did you buy? Any problems?

i bought them used on this site
i switches kept going out out
so i bought a cole/ herssee switch toggle never had any problems again
mounted the switch in my ash tray where the lighter would go .
.
i cant think of the name of them .

agreed

Yea you're probably right about the small camshaft, but those people can still have fun if they want. I think the best benefit of the cutouts is that you can run a quiet restrictive exhaust on the street and just hit the button when you wanna breathe easy at the track or even on the street.

Wow... :tool:

He's one of the only TWO guys that I would trust to build an engine for me if I didn't do it myself. :prayer:

He knows plenty of building engines and cars.

If you don't like his opinions, that's fine, but don't insult his mechanical ability because you don't agree with him.

I've seen him with posts that have helped many people out of jams. If he wasn't so helpful, how come he has so many thanks???

I can see his point. Most electric cut-outs are more for showing off than they are for performance. If you want to do it right for the true performance benefits, then copy the max wedge system with huge pipes to the side behind the h-pipe without any funky electric motors to deal with....

My son's 05 GTO had some electric cut-outs on them. They were on it when we bought it. He loved them. But he loves to show off, the side of his Jeep Cherokee has proof of that...

X2
RRR is good people and he'll set ya straight when ya need it

Exhaust cutouts are not for me either.

How's this for "Off-the-Wall" thinking? (sometimes I scare myself)

You have a killer motor that moves the earth through 3" 2-chamber Flowmasters so you
use the electric cutouts in reverse. When closed, the exhaust is channeled through a couple
of very small quiet mufflers - just for idling stealthily into the drive-in or pulling out past
the cops. Once free and clear, go back to the big system and let 'er rip.

Well, regardless, to me when I hear exhaust cut outs, I think of a couple of retarded chevy guys askin each other what kind of "cams" they run, and how much "naws" their motor can take. Right along with the tuner guys and their fart can mufflers. Same thing to me.

All of what I said is what "I" think of exhaust cutouts. My opinion. I am as entitled to mine as anyone else is to theirs.

Now, the cut outs in post #5 look absolutely great. Very nice install. Well thought out and very professional. I still would not run them. I don't like them.

Kinda like my *** is exit only. I don't stick things in my ***. I don't like exhaust cut outs. That's my opinion and I'm stickin with it.

I didn't point at anybody or their car and insult them, yet, I have been insulted directly.

Fact is, we are all members here. Like it or not, we don't all like the same things. I respect cut outs done right. I still don't like them. I think the only thing gayer is Perez Hilton riding a unicorn in rainbow colored underwear. But that's my opinion. Not my opinion of anyone that runs them. People have the right to do whatever they want to their car. I have the right to think it sucks.

......I think of a couple of retarded chevy guys
Come on Rusty......We all know that the Chevy guys always have all of the
trickest Hi-Po exhaust stuff......You don't have to rub it in!

Is there any performance advantage to the cut outs if you have a decent exhaust to begin with?

......or sound like a Dork.

That's just your opinion but I do agree that it's pretty dorky to pull into a car show with them.
There's a local guy that uncaps his at every car show and it runs high 13's, doesn't sound good at all. I guarantee one of my motors would sound good uncapped but I still wouldn't use them in certain places.
There's a ton of high dollar drag cars, street rods, and road racing cars that have cutouts, the problem is that most Mopar guys don't want to use power adders, cutouts, cowl hoods, custom camshafts, they just wanna stay old school which is fine, you have to do what makes YOU happy.

I've always been a muffler guy, here's a video of my old Dart at Thompson Raceway, pump gas motor, no power adders, 10.5 tires......

Yeah they kill bottom end torque. Oh, you said advantage.

if I had some superfly 899 lift rocker busting camshaft with duration longer than a sonic commercial , I might fly down the interstate wide open or freerev through a hospital parking garage setting car alarms on fire and close them up when I pulled in the driveway, but outside of that , they aren't for me either. my car is a cop magnet as it is.

So they kill bottom end torque on every single engine combination? Even with tuning? I thought you were an engine builder. :wack:

I thought so too. I guess since you disagree with me maybe I should re evaluate my entire persona. I feel so insecure now.

Nothing wrong with your persona, I'm just saying my 60 foot is a 1.36 through the exhaust and a 1.36 with the exhaust system removed. It's properly tuned so I lose no bottom end torque by opening the exhaust. Not all combo's are the same though.

On a street car, bottom end is less without an exhaust. Something with 1.36 60 foot times is not a street car.

Keep on spinnin however you want. If you want this to become a personal disagreement, please send me a PM so it will not continue to derail this thread. At least then your obsession with me will be private.

Great video.......AWESOME car! And Rusty's right. Your car is WAY overqualified here.

You're a local guy to me and my brothers. Are you acquainted with Ross (76 orangewagon) in Akron?

We'll watch for you over the staging lane fence from the tent at the Nat's.
