There are two mini starters. One with the normal studs and one that you have to have a special connector that doesn't come on our cars. I believe you need the early magnum mini starter.
That connector is just an extension to put the lugs at the proper height. Should not affect starter operation, justvwire placement. Big block transmission the starter sits higher which is why yiubtake off that extension. The extension also pits the terminals further away from the engine.
