While waiting for a fuel tank for my 62 valiant I've been replacing engine parts and cleaning fuel lines, new shocks, etc. my question is. What is this part located on the manifold and connected to the carburetor?

Been hearing the ' thingy' whatcha ma call it etc. will look up automatic choke and see what shows up. Thanks

Thanks, it is a choke thermostat. Appreciate your posts. Now to look around. Not sure if I'll need to replace, but, will be able to if necessary

That would be great, haven't been able to spot one yet, however will keep looking. Thanks

That is a automatic choke. Makes starting a whole lot easier!
I have a brand new electric assist one in the box if you need one.
Oh, if you buy one at a parts store, be careful of the bends on the rod as well as the direction of the link hook up.

When you remove it from the manifold you will see that it is adjustable. If not too badly rusted you can tighten or loosen the spring. It will have a arrow and hash marks for adjustment.

you might take it off and clean it. if the coil ( that's what heats up and activates the carb choke) is it is rusted , I have taken some diluted muractic acid and soaked it jjsy enough to clean it some. BE careg=full or you will have nothing left. then neutralize it with water solution of baking soda.

as with most everything mopar, you will find a number of different choke therostates. many probably not available thru the local parts store. your carb might (???) have a choke pull-off which will work from carb vacumn. I would try to get the oem stuff working before I worry about a electric choke add on.

before changing the choke element, start your engine and check if it work properly,,it dont look to bad

I appreciate all posts. Will not replace until I get my fuel tank and get this car running. Just looking for parts, just in case I need one down the road. Thanks again

Looks like a 9/16 wrench.

The electric assist versions use a timer relay. Electric assist off when the temps are cold, electric assist on when the temps are warm. Mopar wanted the choke off as soon as possible when it's warm out and sure enough my Valiant kicks the choke off in half the time when it's warm ambient temps.
