Hi fellow FABO members, Im a newbie in the world of exhaust systems on cars and was looking for a few general suggestions. I have A "super six" slant 6 in my duster, and when i rebuild my exhaust i want it to sound cool. my plan was to use the ported stock manifold and a Super Turbo Muffler so at highway speeds i wont have to listen to the drone... is there a trick to getting that deep loud rumble sound? i know i dont have a V8 but id still like it to sound powerful at idle. any ideas? my first though was bigger pipe... Thanks in Advance!

You may get some answers in the slant 6 section.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Not a Super 6 but I replaced my stock single exhaust with 2-1/4" pipes and a V-maxx turbo muffler. Sounds good but not overly impressive. Slight increase in performance with no drone at all.

Cherry bomb extreme mufflers have a rumble to them.

This was the system I was planning to use if my A100 van ever got completed:

I listened to dozens of audio/video clips of slant sixes, and this was my favorite.

A bigger diameter pipe will sound deeper and quieter. Drone can be caused by a variety of factors, i.e. muffler design or lack of muffler, muffler placement, RPM etc.

My slant I ran headers with 3" single pipe from front to back with a 2 glass pack style mufflers.

Years ago I added a set of Clifford long tube headers (to clear the PS) in my stock slant 65 Dart. I ran the front 3 to the passenger side and the rear three to along the stock location all out the back. Used a couple of turbo mufflers. At idle, it sounded like a V8 out the back and wasn't overly loud while underway. I'm planning on a similar set-up on my wagon, except the slant will be beefed up internally, more aggressive cam and a set of either triple SUs or triple Webers.
