Well, my slant 6 racing days are over before they even began. It is with heavy heart that I announce the death of the slant six in my 65 Belvedere, affectionately known as ‘Dragon’. A broken oil sensor wire and a leaking valve cover deprived it of enough oil to lose at least three rods and ruin the crank in the process. I’ll save all the ‘good stuff’ and probably build a ‘Dragon II’ someday. I plan to park the Belvedere for now. I will build another with the parts I have accumulated, but for now my slant six dreams of glory are on hold.
Sigh…

Hopefully there are enough good parts to build an even better DRAGON II!

Ok, leaking valve covers lost enough oil to run it out of oil? Dude, once in a while check your oil...... lol

Yep, lots of good stuff for the next one.
ported big valve head
ported factory exhaust manifold
Ported 2 bbl intake with modified 2 bbl
recurved electronic Distributor
Oregon Cam & lifters
complete rebuild kit (for a 65 /6)
I think I will look for a 65/66 Valiant or Barracuda next time.
sigh...

Yes, I know. My mind has been elsewhere. The sad part is, I was in the process of making a plate to mount an oil pressure gauge and a temp gauge. I just changed the plugs the weekend before and then went on a couple of 100+ mile road trips. Sometimes I take things for granted...

I just stripped the 170 from my '65. The longblock is siting outside waiting for the scrap run. I couldn't even give it away. It ran ok but has a lot of miles and I have a 225 for the car...
