what about an average cost for mechining my 906 heads? Could i fot that in the budget?.. not a lot of experiance with these things.

Nitrous ( 125-150 shot), is cheap,easy,& addictive. I would pay attention to fuel line size (1/2"- AN -8 size), fuel pump quality ( a high quality Edelbrock/ Carter mechanical pump, a GOOD electric pump, Holley blue/Carter HP 4601 electric...), and at least a good stock electronic ignition . MSD/Holley digital box,even better. Every fifty ponies of spray, minimum 2 degrees retard total timing,@2500-3000. As for budget heads, check out Edelbrocks EZ heads line,& 440 Source's Stealth heads.
