I've been reading several posts here and have decided to ask you good folks a few questions about Carlisle. I plan to go and to bring my wonderful wife. We're staying at the Red Roof. I would like to pre-register, and park with FABO cars (and people). Here come the questions:
1. We have a 1966 Valiant convertible. A nice driver and your basic 30 footer. It's also admittedly a work in progress. Should I park with the show cars? If so, would you recommend we bring a dining canopy and a couple of chairs for sitting near the car? I'm 61 years old and about 100 pounds too heavy and will probably need to rest.
2.How's the food there?
3.Is there anything anyone would recommend about the Red Roof Inn?
Last bit - We're planning on driving in from Erie PA on Thursday and going to plan a route that involves the fewest freeways. Don't mind going out of our way a bit, and we like the 2 lane roads or 4 lane with very few trucks.
Would anyone care to meet along the way and caravan in?
Thanks for your time, and hope to meet up with several of you there.
Jay

it will be HOT, a canopy and a large hat to protect from the sun is highly recommended, as is a good supply of water. Chairs are a given.

There are good showers with hot water at the event. It has quite a few good concessions with eatable food and ice is available if you need.

We camp at the event so I cant speak to the Red Roof Inn. We're driving from Portland Oregon.

After reading your first question followed immediately by the second, it made me laugh out loud. Sorry, no offense intended, it was funny.

I've been going to the Nats since 83 (missed 2 years) and have yet to make it to Carlisle. Every year something seems to come up and I end up not going. On the other hand, the Nats are only 2 hrs away from me so it's easy for me to blow down there and back in one day if not entered.

I have a 68 Cuda that loves road trips and a 64 Val convertible. The 225 is out of the vert right now and I have so many other things going on, I honestly don't know if it will be drivable by then. (brakes, etc.)

But sure, I'd caravan with you. Neither of mine are show cars either, that's for sure!

You are gonna love it,So many people with the same interests. Never think your car is not good enough, many want to see drivers more than a show pony.Plenty of food, local schools and churches man the booths. Just keep your fingers crossed for good weather !!

Absolutely park with the show cars!!! I remember a few years ago some youngster (20 something) garnered a LOT of attention in a rather raggedy looking 68?? Dart. When he hit the dyno jaws dropped!! Slant Six- turbocharged- fuel injected If I remember right?? Over 500 hp at the wheels?? Somebody correct me if I'm mistaken pls. What happened to this guy and the car?? Guess my point is, bring it, show it, and absolutely no one will look down on it. Trust me, I've been going since the beginning.
Few tips- bring the tent and chairs- be prepared for heat , almost hits 100 every year, hazy , and humid- T storms are regular too
Good walking shoes
Go on Thursday if you're looking for parts
Can't say about hotels- always in RV campground - like a show in itself
By Saturday you'll be walking by a row of Superbirds to find the unusual lol
Only in Carlisle!!!

i have stayed at the red roof inn in harrisburg
cant beat it for the money
i think the food at carlisle is good
i have been going for 10 + years
will be there this year
swap meet spaces I26-I29
if you have never been
i cant explain what you are missing
you just have to be there

1. Yes, enter the show field and be proud of your car! If bringing a tent, make sure you have it secured...A few years ago I remember a tent flying through the show field and damaging some cars!
2. Food is good. There are some reasonably priced vendors outside the fairgrounds by Gate 7.
3. A BIG Thumbs Down for the Red Roof Inn. I stayed there last year and they "lost" my reservation...Imagine the frustration knowing all other hotels are full! Take a look at my thread for specific details about the Red Roof Inn here:

This year I am staying at the Sleep Inn with an advance purchase rate of $127.20 a night.
Only catch is you have to book for 3 nights.

I'll be at vendor space O-203, so stop in and say hi...have a seat and get out of the sun for a while!

It gets hot -bring alot of water -best is to freeze and put it in a backpack, but some Polar® Water Bottles they are Insulated. If you need a break walk over to the fair grounds diner to cool off! good food also and very nice people also!

Definitely park in the show field. you will meet all kinds of nice people. Its a blast. a canopy, chairs, cooler are a must. the food is good! the one year we went to the show and my wife had a broken foot.. we rented one of them little motorized carts for her, so she could see all the cars. we had a lot of fun. not sure I we will make it there this year.

You can't go wrong at the Mopar show. The Carlisle folks and show are great. Big show good food , the town is pleasant . Can't beat hanging out with the mopar guys and girls. Make sure you wear good walking shoes you can get some exercise. I should probably work in the advertising department. You'll love it.

Show that Mopar, brother! You won't be sorry. Pack like you're going to the beach. Been going for 20+ years and I wouldn't miss it for anything.

Are there Shipping Services on site to get purchased items sent home for those that don't drive to the event?

Park with the show cars. You are in the park and everything is close. Mopar People are rarely snooty. Enjoy and take your time.

Hey Jay ! What's up buddy, this is Erik ( was in the tent to your right) . hope you had a good time, was nice meeting you and your wife this weekend. Now get that radio situation sorted out !
